Why do you think Gwen is so protective of Porter, and why she never suspects that he’s involved in the crimes? Did you suspect him at any point?
I did find this relationship a bit odd and didn’t quite understand it. His actions after Reanne’s death also surprised me and felt unbelievable/unrealistic as well as when he kept disappearing. I don’t think I actually suspected him of being involved though.
I think she sees him as kind of a nerdy guy who needs life guidance. About 1/2 way through the book was starting to wonder.
Well I believe he was young and a bit innocent and she felt responsible for him. I had questions about him as he became more involved with the group.
He was such a goofy kid and liked Gwen almost like a slobbering dog. As the people in her life are not innocent, protecting him helped her divorce herself from the heinous acts her father did and become more human. I never suspected him as a suspect as it wouldn’t make sense. Why would he put on an act ? Nor did I suspect he was a red herring either.
Gwen seemed to like to collect broken people - Natalie, Porter, and even Elyse. I don’t know if it was because she was able to relate to them because of her past or because she truly thought that she could help them. I think that she also liked being needed. The seemingly normal one compared to their dysfunction. I think I suspected everyone at some point during this book.
Porter was the only friend she had. He seemed like an unreliable friend to me though. I didn’t suspect him.
I didn’t suspect him and he seemed to be the only friend in her life that didn’t come from darkness.
I agree, I think she was kind of a mother/friend to him.
I liked Porter. I think she was protective of him in the same way she was protective of Natalie. Kind of a big-sistery way. I never suspected him.
I was not sure what to make of Porter; to me, he was neither here nor there. Gwen seemed to believe they were true friends, and she would do anything to help him, while he was supportive of her no matter what. I did not suspect Porter, maybe because I thought it would be too obvious.
