Which books will you take on vacation?

As we head into summer vacation and travel season, which books are you packing in your bag or backpack for your next trip? For our 2 weeks in a camper trip, I am bringing some backlist books off my TBR shelf: The Dutch House, Exit West, Writers and Lovers.

ALL OF THEM, :rofl::rofl::rofl:

That’s the joy of a Kindle.

Of course, I’m sadly not going on vacation again this year. Still need to be home for my 15-year-old diabetic cat who is a total freak about even having an unfamiliar person in the house, so a cat sitter doesn’t work.

Ah, the Kindle. Yes, I keep forgetting that is a thing one can acquire. :joy:
Your cat is lucky to have you. I hope you read some good book this summer from the comfort of your home with a cat on your lap.

I am not going on vacation but will have my granddaughter for the next two weeks. The next books that I will be reading for my three bookclubs are Broken Country, Remarkably Bright Creatures, and Night. Need to have them read by the first week in July. Lucy is a reader also so will have plenty of time to read among other activities!

Vacationing at home this year but have my reading stack lined up for next few weeks:

Written on the Dark Guy Gavriel Kay
Isola. Allegra Goodman
In Winter I Get Up At Night. Jane Urquhart
Chenneville. Paulette Jiles
The Frozen River. Ariel Lawhorn

plus a couple of detective fiction books from my dependable authors—Deborah Crombie, Belinda Bauer, Jane Casey, Rebecca Cantrell—which story I choose will depend on my mood.

My TBR pile has steadily increased because of other commitments so I’m attacking it by picking something I want to read (Kay’s newest) and 4 books from my stagnant TBR pile, plus the option of a couple of detective books if I need something quick and fun. I’m a moody reader in the summer so I need choices!

Kind of a mixed bag of books on the Kindle for the Summer:
All We Were Promised - Ashton Lattimore
Foundation - Isaac Asimov
Spain in Our Hearts - Adam Hochschild
The Names - Florence Knapp
Spitfires - Becky Aikman

These are just for starters.

You folks are reading some really great books! I’ve either read what you’ve got on your TBR, or I already have it on my Kindle.

My husband and I won’t be doing vacation this summer, but have a 12 hour round trip drive later this week for a funeral. I hope to get William Kent Krueger’s Ordinary Grace read for my book club’s meeting next week. Will also be taking along The Lost Continent by Bill Bryson. Whether I get them read or not is another story. My husband sometimes gets aggravated when I “bury my nose in a book” when we are traveling. I actually can understand that because I get bored when I drive and he sleeps for long periods. We’ll have to compromise!

@Lana_Maskus have you thought about audiobooks?

I hope you enjoy Ordinary Grace. I thought it was an outstanding novel even though the subject is a sad one.

I listen to audiobooks whenever I go anywhere by myself. Hubby prefers music when we travel which is fine. I ferry my grandkids around quite a bit and definitely don’t listen when they are with me. You never know what “language” will suddenly come out of the blue. Unless we’re listening to a children’s classic.

I am not going on vacation this summer, maybe in the Fall. A book I recommend taking to the beach is One Perfect Couple by Ruth Ware.

Ahh, Bill Bryson is such a good summer read! Have you read A Walk in the Woods?

I’ll have to check that one out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Yes, I enjoyed it. If you like history, his One Summer: America, 1927 is very good. Unbelievable that so much happened in one summer.

I’ve read several of Bryson’s books, but A Walk in the Woods is my favorite (probably because I’m a backpacker myself & can relate). It was very funny.
