My last five-star read was My Friends by Fredrik Backman.

I’d heard a lot about Backman’s books over the years (since A Man Called Ove way back in 2014) and I’d always meant to pick up one of his novels, but never got around to it. Then, I started hearing about this new book he had coming out (it published May 5). It was getting really great reviews, so I requested it. Sooooo wonderful.

My last five-star listen was James by Percival Everett. I’d like to say I chose it because of all the awards it won, but it was actually because so many people here have read & recommended it. One of the cool things about listening to it was being able to hear the shift in vocabulary rather than just reading it. The narrator was awesome.

The Ghostwriter was my last 5 star. It was an excellent mystery. Throughout the book I had many ideas on who killed the siblings. I liked the characters.

My last 5āļøwas The Correspondent. I really enjoyed the character and I’m a sucker for epistolary novels!

My last 5 star read was Isabel Allende’s House of Spirits. I read it because it has been on my digital shelf forever and to date I had only read and enjoyed her more recent books.

My last five-star read was Mary Kubica’s newest - It’s Not Her.

It is a thriller that will have your jaw dropping at the ending.

I read it as an early reader.

My last 5:star: was The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. I received it from BookBrowse :slightly_smiling_face::heart: I entered the giveaway because it sounded interesting. I later realized that I have the nonfiction A Midwife’s Tale in my TBR stack.

Oh, I haven’t read any John Irving in decades! That one’s been on my TBR forever, too.

Ask Again, Yes. That was last October and I am ready for another one!

My last 5-star fiction read was The Dark Wives by Ann Cleeves. I do enjoy how she spins out a tale, while keeping an eye on Vera Stanhope, the lead detective. Stanhope’s interior life promotes her understanding of the potential suspects, creating a dimensional character.

My last 5-star nonfiction read was ā€œThe Great Abolitionist: Charles Sumner and the Fight for a More Perfect Unionā€ by Stephen Puleo. I’d heard for many years about Sumner’s unwavering opposition to slavery and the beating he received from a fellow legislator. However, that outline missed the nuances of the story, which the author ably filled in.

My last 5 star read was Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann. This was actually a revisit of a book that I had read many years ago and remembered as extraordinary but I had forgotten why. It’s a wonderful story about how our lives are intertwined, that there is a connection whether seen or just a thoughtful gesture connecting one person to another. Beautifully written with more than enough mindful scenarios to keep the reader deep in thought.

That’s been on my list so long, @Mary_H1! I need to bump it up.

This was my last 5 star too!

Story of my life by Lucy Score. I read it for a book club but absolutely LOVED it and can’t wait to check out Score’s other books!

Ooh I love the sound of this book! I’ve never come across it, but I’ve added it high up on my TBR list! Thanks for the recommendation.

She’s such a good writer! I’ve added It’s not her to my TBR list!

I just finished Daughters of Shandong by Eve J Chung. I really enjoyed it. I learned so much about this time period in history. It was such a good book from a debut author.
