I recently finished two reads. I’m not a mystery fan, but really enjoyed listening to The Dry by Jane Harper. My book club read The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon and all members agreed it was excellent.
The Strange Case of Jane O. Loved this book by Walker.
I just finished rereading Fresh Water for Flowers by Valerie Perrin. The writing is superb! The story is sad and the book is long, but it was definitely worth the tears and the time.
My last five-star read was WAYWARD GIRLS by Susan Wiggs.
I chose it because I like her books, and I was offered a copy to read.
My last five star was What Happened to the McCrays? by Tracey Lange. She is an auto-read author for me. This did not disappoint, in fact I think it will land as my favorite of the three. I’m letting it settle for a week or so as I get over the book hangover. Highly recommend, but beware there is difficult content for some.
Isola by Allegra Goodman, who presents amazing descriptions of faith and contrasts between the social classes during the 1530s - 1540s.
Other 5 stars: Time of the Child by Niall Williams, Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge, Daughters of Shandong by Eve J. Chung, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, The King’s Messenger by Susan Kearsley.
