What do you do when you're not reading?

If you’d like to share, we’d love to know what other hobbies or interests you have beyond reading.

For such a bookworm, I’m surprisingly active in the outside world. My #1 favorite activity is sitting on the couch, reading, with a cat on my lap. When I’m not doing that, though, I’m running, hiking, kayaking, or snowshoeing. For such a couch-potato it’s surprising how much I like being outdoors. My husband and I also enjoy birding in the area.

Oh, and in line with the couch-potato vibe, I also love NFL football. I’m unfortunately a Cleveland girl and therefore a Browns fan. I don’t approve of their recent personnel choices, and of course their losing season continues, but I’ll always root for my team.

I belong to a gym that I attend often. Also have a wonderful loop trail around the Columbia River that I walk with a friend. September through the second week of May I am in two Bible studies Precepts and Bible Study Fellowship. Both take up a lot of my time. I volunteer at our Performing Arts Center as an usher so I get to see all the wonderful performances. Our city has amazing actors, I also enjoy gardening. My only granddaughter who lives in a different state is with me one week in March, two in late June, most of August and two weeks in December.

I am a diehard Pittsburgh Sports fan. We have three active kids (12, 9, and 6) that dance and hauling them around is our main activity. We spend a lot of time in local parks and playing in streams. I am a middle school Latin and Spanish teacher, so I go to a lot of conferences to learn more about my craft.

Oooh, @Paula_Walters, tell me more about your loop! Where’s it start from? I live in East Portland and have a Willamette loop I run a lot, but I haven’t spent much time around the Columbia.

Uh oh, @Anthony_Conty, I’m not sure we can be friends! I grew up in Cleveland… need I say more? LOL! Although now that you have Russell Wilson at QB I do have to admit I’m rooting more for the Steelers these days (plus the Browns ain’t doin’ all that well this season…). Sorry y’all lost to the Ravens this afternoon!

I live in Wenatchee Wa. It is a10 mile loop trail. West side of the trail in Wenatchee, Chelan County, east side in East Wenatchee which is actually Douglas County. I do my 5K a few times a week. Do not do the entire 10 mile loop very often. I would like to!

Go Pack Go! Yes, I’m one of thousands of co-owners of the Green Bay Packers. It’s the only team not owned by a billionaire and never will be since we shareholders have a say. My one share is not worth any money nor can I ever sell it. Either I give it to someone now or bequeath the share in my will. It’s fun to tell people I co-own an NFL team. So, I, too follow football but mostly pros although the college playoffs are interesting to watch.

Otherwise my time is working on projects be it household or personal. A cousin and I recently collaborated on a biographical memoir of our grandfathers and their siblings; one who was killed in WWI and buried in France.

We can be friends…although my one trip to Cleveland as an opposing fan was not pleasant.

@Paula_Walters I have been to Wenatchee a few times but haven’t explored that area much. Thanks for the recommendation!

@NanK I absolutely did not know that! I think that’s so awesome. My team (Cleveland Browns ) almost got moved in the 90s, and there’s a lot of talk about it getting relocated in the near future. Definitely does not make me happy!

The Packer’s history is fascinating. Way, way back, as the Pack is one of the oldest teams, Curly Lambeau and friends started playing football games against long gone teams. GB citizens attended, but when the team was nearly bankrupt, several smart business men stepped in to save their present and future. Eventually stock shares were sold and have been a few more times over the 100 + years of the Packers. My husband and I each bought one share in the latest offering, which doesn’t occur often. We can attend the shareholders meeting in the summers, buy some discounted Packer memorabilia, but no season tickets. It usually takes about 40+ years of being on the wait list for season tickets to become available. People put their newborn children on the wait list in hopes of luck in having their name called for season tickets when the child now an adult reaches middle age; not knowing where the seats are even located in Lambeau Field. Many great Packer fans and traditions that are so very unique to this team. GPG

I travel, bake and work out in the gym with my trainer (after baking). Just kidding. I just taste my treats. I don’t go overboard.

@Anthony_Conty, I’m sorry to hear that but not terribly surprised. There’s a reason I’ve lived on the West Coast for 30 years.

I spend mornings either working with a trainer at the gym or going to a yoga class. I take Sundays off but often go for a long walk.

I volunteer in my town’s elementary schools. As a former teacher, I feel I need to give back to the community. 3 book clubs to keep up with! Love watching sports but most especially hockey. Of course, I have special teams I follow😊 Love gaming out with my family and friends

I sew baby quilts, lap quilts, table runners, and placemats when not reading.
These are items that are given to people who need them. I am a part of a quilting group at my church.
