What did you know about Mary Quant and her various business lines before reading the book?
I was in high school and college during the 1960s and 70s and fondly remember rolling up my waistband to shorten my skirt to “mini” levels and swing dresses in bright colors, so I was conscious of Mary Quant at the beginning of her career. It was interesting to read more about her later life in this book,
I honestly knew practically nothing about her. We’ve had her as a trivia question a few times at the local pub quiz, but that was about the extent of it for me. This book actually made me want to learn more about her and read some non-fiction about her and the era.
I was very lucky. My father went to London and brought me 2 Mary Quant outfits complete with long stockings when I was in college in Buffalo, NY. They caused a sensation. I was refused admittance to a classy restaurant until I agreed to wrap a tablecloth around my waist! How I loved those clothes!

I knew nothing of Mary Quant and her designs. It was fascinating to learn her creative process, and how APG supported her through her career.
I knew nothing about Mary Quant! When I told my (much older) sister about the book - she yelped with joy as she fondly remembered her clothing line. I’m saving the book for her! LOL.
I really did not know much about Mary Quant. I thought of her as a fashion icon and being famous for the mini skirt and other current fashions at the time. I found it so interesting to learn more.
I was part of the young people embracing MQ’s designs and clothing styles. I knew about the clothes and hair styles, but not so much the shoes and other accessories. I did not realize her business empire was so extensive and long lasting.
Absolutely nothing. This book intrigued me and now I want to learn more about Mary Quant and others from her time. I am glad to have been given a chance to read this book.
I missed this time period, so I knew little about Mary Quant. What an impressive woman. I am so glad I got to learn about her and that time period.

I was in high school and college in the 60s. A little earlier than the explosion of the mini skirt and Quant’s fashions. As a school teacher from the mid 60s on, we had a strict dress code in our public schools. These fashions were not acceptable for teachers or students in my part of the country but I was very aware of the mini skirt, boots and very bold and exciting colors. I knew nothing about the creator of these interesting fashions. I did enjoy reading about Mary, her associates and the creative process she used to design these clothes.

I’ve never been into fashion, and consequently had never heard of Mary Quant or most of the other real-life characters in the book. I was certainly familiar with the style when I was growing up, though!
I graduated from high school in the late sixties and I can remember wearing mini dresses and colorful tights all through college. Mary Quant was well known given the success of the “British” invasion on fashion and music during that time. But, I didn’t know the back story of her success only the impact her designs had as a change maker for millions of young women like me during that time.
I think all I knew about her was her name. In high school we looked more at Twiggy than designers. I do remember rolling up my skirt waistband - until the nuns at school made us roll them down!
I moved to England in 1966 with my husband who was in the Air Force. Mary Quant’s clothes were in faction during that time there. I enjoyed seeing her clothes in department stores & shops everywhere. I didn’t have any of her clothing but I really enjoyed seeing them.
Although I was in college in the sixties I didn’t know about Mary Quant but definitely was familiar with some of her styles. I did wear mini skirts, hot pants and tall white boots! I was tall and thin so often people would mention that I should model like Twiggy. I did model in a fashion show in college which was fun, but like the parents in the book, I never seriously considered the profession as a worthy occupation.
I did find Mary Quant to be fascinating in her various business ventures. But somehow it seemed like things just fell into place. I know she worked hard but her background and contacts made a big difference.
I knew nothing about Mary Quant. I love biographies, though. Do, I thought that this would be a good read. The book did not disappoint. It was great reading about how one woman had such an impact on people.
I really did not know much or that she started the rage to shorten hemlines. I downloaded her autobiography Quant by Quant on my kindle and plan to browse through her book for more information.
I grew up during the 60s and was well aware of Mary Quant and her importance to fashion of the day. I had no idea of the role she played in bringing fashion to the US through stores like JC Penny and was not aware of the scope of her fashion empire.
