What book or books are you reading this week? (02/13/2025)

What book or books are you reading this week? We’d love to know!

I just started The Jackal’s Mistress yesterday and so far I’m really liking it. Of course, I’ve enjoyed Bohjalian’s novels ever since reading The Sandcastle Girls, so it’s no surprise that this one’s entertaining me.

I’m just finishing the third book of the Silo series, Dust, in audiobook format. I’ve got two hours to go, & the jury’s still out on it.

If you’ve seen my weekly posts here, it should be obvious that my audiobooks are my “fun” reading - sci-fi, fantasy, mysteries & thrillers… that sort of thing. Not sure what book I’ll start listening to next, possibly Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera, but not 100% sure yet.

The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton. Dystopian mystery.

“Eddie WInston is Looking for Love” by Matianne Cronin & I really like it (so far!) Next up will be one a friend gave me–“Dirtbag Queen” by Andy Corren. Probably wouldn’t have picked it up but I’m willing to give it a try since it was recommended to her.

I am reading Isola-fictionalized version of a true story set in 1500‘s. I am listening to The Island of Sea Women. Seems to be an island theme!

I started “The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern” today. It is nowhere near my normal genre but the reviews are rave.

@Donna_J Isola is on my own, personal TBR list. Let me know what you think of it! I’m waiting for a Kindle double-points day to get anything else, so I’ve got some time.

@Anthony_Conty I’m curious as to what you’ll end up thinking of The Love Elixir…. It’s definitely not the kind of book you typically read, but it is sweet and funny (if predictable). There’s some pretty good historical fiction thrown in there, too.

Have had a lot of windshield time this week so have been listening to the next books in some of my favorite series, including Fierce Poison (historical mystery series by Will Thomas) and The Relentless Moon (historical sci-fi by Mary Robinette Kowal). Entertaining listens for a roadtrip.

I am currently listening to the Frozen River by Lawhon for the second time, The Wife the Maid and the Mistress–also by Lawhon, and just downloaded Isola by Allegra Goodman.

I hands-down adored The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern and “adored” is not generally a word I use. have not stopped recommending it to others.

I just finished Little Eve by Catriona Ward…it was a great read although disturbing.

I just finished Neko Case’s book The Harder I Fight The More I Love You. I love her music and her book makes me admire her even more with all that she had to overcome.

I am now reading Alexei Navalny’s Patriot which is a fascinating read so far.

A Century of Fiction in The New Yorker: 1925-2025 edited by Deborah Treisman.

Oh I just got my notice today that the e-audio of Presumed Guilty is ready to download.

I don’t know what your genre preferences are, Anthony, but I would be surprised if you don’t end up enjoying The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern. I’ve recommended it to a widely diverse array of friends and not a single person has had anything but very positive reactions.
