What book or books are you reading this week? Please share! We’d love to know.
I put Lolita on hold. I had heard it was coming up for discussion, but then realized that won’t be for months yet. I want the book to be fresh in my mind when it comes up. So I turned to another upcoming discussion book: The Wager. Quite a harrowing tale! I’m about a third of the way through and enjoying it tremendously.
In audiobook, I finally finished the last (for now) entry in Craig Alanson’s Expeditionary Force series. Argh! It ended on a cliffhanger and the next book isn’t due out until April. So instead I’ve turned to Wool, Book 1 of the Silo series. I didn’t realize that the TV series Silo is based on books, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the books are really good. It really helped me understand some of what was going on; the show was a bit complex for my attention span.
I have to look - how can I forget? LOL!!
In the past week and a half I read:
GOOD BAD MOTHER by Anya Mora
A MAP TO PARADISE by Susan Meissner
BEACH VIBES by Susan Mallery - not my usual genre, but I enjoyed it - there was some tension and a bit of a mystery
Currently reading:
THE FISHERMAN’S GIFT by Julia R. Kelly
Hi I am currently reading three books.
Infused by Henrietta Lovell a memoir/travelogue from a tea aficionado
Be Ready When the Luck Happens by Ina Garten —on audio read by the author
The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year–light mystery leftover from December intentions
I just finished Laila Lalami’s The Dream Hotel. I can’t stop thinking about it. It permeates every aspect of the current news cycle, in other words, the state of the world today.
This week I am reading Hula: A Novel by Jasmin Iolani Hakes. I’m enjoying it so far, but it did take a minute for me to get into the plot.
I’m currently reading All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. It’s such a good read that I’m finding it difficult to put down.
I agree with you regarding Wool. I enjoyed the books a lot more than the TV series.
“Frozen River” just arrived this afternoon so that will be my next one. I’m actually waiting to start it on Sunday so I’ll have something to distract me on Monday.
Currently reading The Trees by Percival Everett and In the Middle are the Horsemen by Tik Maynard.
I just finished The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins (The Girl on the Train). It’s a good, fast-paced mystery/thriller. It starts out with the discovery that a revered artist’s sculpture contains a human bone.
I just finished reading The Book of Killowen. It is a second book in a series set in Ireland. I have enjoyed reading these historically based mysteries.
I am currently bouncing between Havoc and *The Atlas Six.” Plan to start the Barbie book, which just arrived, next in preparation for the discussion.
Just finished T J Klune’s The House in the Cerulean Sea and have started Somewhere Beyond the Sea. Loving this series.
I think you’ll like it, @Carol_Ann_Robb. Frozen River wasn’t on my radar until it hit the book club, but I’m so glad I read it. It’s excellent historical fiction and really held my attention.
Hard by a Great Forest. Frozen River came today for my next read.
I’m reading Confessions by Catherine Airey after a recommendation from a Bookstagrammer I know. And it’s partly set in Ireland (which I seem drawn to). So far, it’s very good.
PRESUMED GUILTY by Scott Turow. I was fortunate to attend a luncheon this week where he was the guest.
Calamity by David Baldacci. The story is a departure from many of his prior novels. It’s a very provocative, historical fiction mystery set in the late 1960’s. Also slowly reading “Bark!” which is a great read (nonfiction) for any dog owner with a fearful (including sound sensitive) dogs, or anxious dog, or a reactive dog.
