@Connie_H , Glad to hear this! I am starting it tonight!
I read Sonny Boy by Al Pacino… better actor than writer. Just finished Becoming Madam Secretary . About Frances Perkins and her tme on FDR’s cabinet as the first woman there… Lots of great suggestions here! Thanks!
I am currently reading Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho and I Heard There Was A Secret Chord by Daniel J. Levitin.
I’m reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in preparation of reading James. Tried to listen to an audiobook version but the dialect was painful
I’m very interested in Confessions. I hope you get a chance to post more thoughts about it.
I’m reading There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak. It is wonderful and epic and I kind of don’t want it to end. Most of the story is carried by three really great characters in separate timelines.
Anne - I really liked it and would give it 4.5 stars. Lots of storylines so I had a bit of a challenge keeping all the characters straight all of the time. And there was a twist in the ending that I’m still shaking my head about a bit. But I did love the multiple characters and the atmosphere. I am drawn for some unknown reason to Irish authors and books set in Ireland. I’m not Irish and I’ve never been there but maybe it’s my message to go visit!
@Amy_H, do you remember who the narrator was? I was thinking about also listening to the book, and maybe i can find a version with a different narrator.
This is wonderful @Evonne_Benedict. I too am a big fan of many Irish authors and I have a very good Irish friend who is always kicking new ideas my way. Thanks for taking the time to fill me in on Confessions.
@Anne_Glasgow - have you read any of Niall Williams novels? I just started them in 2024, read three of them, and his newest ‘Time of the Child’ was my book of the year out of about 60. Highly recommended.
I have read Niall Williams but he’s a little too wordy for my taste. I read the new Christmas one and at least one former but they just aren’t for me.
My favorites include: Claire Keegan, Louise Kennedy, Colm Toibin and probably others I’m not thinking of right now. At my friend’s urging last year I read and absolutely loved The Magician. I had been intimidated by it but it totally worked for me.
Reading God of the Woods. Actually listening to it. So far really great.
The Arctic Fury–historical fiction.
I’m reading The Seventh Bride by T Kingfisher, and I just finished The Girl and the Stars by Mark Lawrence- there’s 3 so I’ll start the next one after I finish The Seventh Bride.
