What are you reading this week? Please share! We’d love to know.
Ripper by Isabel Allende and finishing Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly
This Here is Love. And it is amazing! Review to come soon!
Just finished Wally Lamb’s The River Is Waiting and it was great. About to start Our Last Resort by Clemence Michallon.
A Murderous Business by Cathy Pegau.
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. She’s such a great writer!
Summers in Squid Tickle by Robert Finch. About 50% into this non-fiction book and love it so far. A book about people and place.
‘The Fisherman’s Gift’ by Julia R. Kelly. Not sure where I heard about it, but I’m such a fan of novels based in the British Isles I thought I’d take a chance on it! This one is set in Scotland.
An older BB book The Life We Bury. It’s really good haven’t finished it yet
Working my way down BookBrowse’s Award Winners’ list and reading “The First State of Being” by Erin Entrada Kelly. I promised the kids a trip to the library and Barnes & Noble this weekend and plan to pick up “Every Living Thing: The Great and Deadly Race to Know All Life” by Jason Roberts, the Pulitzer winner for Best Biography.
The Satisfaction Cafe ,starting it tonight!
I just finished The White Crow, book 2 in the Philomena McCarthy series written by Michael Robotham and have started listening to Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian.
I finished “View From Lake Como” by Adriana Trigiani yesterday & then started “Rose Arbor” by Rhys Bowen.
Currently reading Buckeye by Patrick Ryan and really enjoying it. So far, it’s set in the 1940s, and I’m loving the author’s portrayal of small town life. And, as you might guess, it’s set in Ohio, which was part of the reason I picked it.
After that, I want to do a re-read of James. Bookbrowse is hosting a live book discussion of it for those with a Book Club+ membership in a couple of weeks, and I want it to be fresh. Plus, I listened to the book rather than reading it, and I think in this case in particular I missed some of the impact as a result.
In audiobook format, I’m in the midst of The Lies They Told by Ellen Marie Wiseman. It opens with a German family attempting to enter the US via Ellis Island in the early part of the 20th century, between WWI & WWII. Wow, I was stressed out just reading out the protagonist’s experience trying to get into the country. I had a vague understanding of what it was like to immigrate here (my grandparents came through Ellis Island) but I had no idea how intense the process was.
I am re-reading Isola to get ready for a book club meeting- I recommended the book and will be the facilitator. I don’t usually re-read books but I’m enjoying this book all over again!
Did you like this book- I was a little disappointed ( see my book review).
I have just started it so no opinion yet! Will let you know!
Lilac Girls is one of my favorite reads, despite being quite a lot to take in.
I just finished Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller and began reading Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q Sutanto. I’m listening to All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy when I walk or in my car.
Im listening to „The Women“ by Kristin Hannah.
