What book or books are you reading this week? Please share! We’d love to know.
I started Vuong’s book last night and put it aside this morning. I will read it but right now is not the time and not as an audiobook (narrator quite grating). What I read was beautiful so look forward to finding my way back to it eventually.
I loved the Uncommon Reader - what a fun short book.
I am currently reading “Murderabilia: A History of Crime in 100 Objects” by Harold Schechter, my favorite True Crime writer. Each of the 100 crime stories has photos of individuals or evidence associated with the criminals, some from personal collections. These range from murder weapons to letters written by the criminals. Fascinating. I’m reading this book via Kindle.
@Gabi_J I’m not sure about the audio version (a narrator can make all the difference!) but the prologue has a different writing style than much of the rest of the book. If you haven’t gotten that far, I urge you to bear with it until hitting the section where he’s conversing with Grazia.
@kim.kovacs I will definitely go back to the book! I just need something a little lighter right now. Just started Taiwan Travelogue by Yang Shuang-Zi.
I just finished listening to Pam Jenoff’s Last Twighlight in Paris, and slowly making my way to the end of the sprawling drama of The Antidote by Karen Russell. Once finished, I plan to begin reading Playground by Richard Power. I’m also reading The Busybody Book Club by Freya Sampson to review.
The Alice Network, Kate Quinn
I sat on “The Postcard” by Anne Berest for over a year and finally picked it up. It seems like it is going to be HEAVY as stories of the Holocaust always are.
I’m reading and enjoying Becoming Madame Secretary for our June book club pick. Also schooling myself in preparation for an expedition cruise of the Great Lakes by reading The Death and Life of the Great Lakes by Dan Egan. Although I grew up less than an hour drive to Lake Michigan I really was never taught anything about the Great Lakes system. The book is fascinating and eye opening.
I just finished Abbi Waxman’s “One Death at a Time” & “Year of Pleasures” by Elizabeth Berg when the library called & said “Conclave” by Robert Harris was ready for me to pick up. I had hoped it might take a little longer for a new Pope to be elected but heard about the white smoke on my way to get it. Oh well–I still expect it to be a good book.
Finishing Lies and Weddings by Kevin Kwan, author of Crazy Rich Asians, then it’s off to a new release, My Friends by Fredrick Backman, author of A Man Called Ove. (Not the My Friends by Hisham Matar, although I’d like to read that one too, at some point.)
In audiobook format, I should finish up Huckleberry Finn in the next couple of days, then I get to listen to James. Can’t wait!
As far as recently read books, I can’t recommend The Names by Florence Knapp highly enough. It’s hard to believe this is the author’s debut work; the plot is unique and her writing is exceptional. The book is getting a lot of hype but it’s well-deserved, in my opinion. My review of it will be in the next BookBrowse issue.
Welcome to the Forum, Steven_C.
I just finished THE GUEST COTTAGE by Lori Foster. If you need an uplifting, heartwarming read, this is it.
Loved the characters and the setting.
I’m reading These Days by Lucy Caldwell, and My Name Is Emilia del Valle by Isabel Allende.
Hope to read The Names very soon!
I just listened to a few minutes of The Names. I think it is going to be fabulous.
Just finished “Murder at Gulls Nest”, a fun little detective story as palate cleanser. Started Yhe Road to Tender Hearts” and I’m not feeling it; too chatty and all over the place.
Snap by Belinda Bauer.
A decidedly different mystery novel that is twisting and turning my preconceptions inside out. I’m half-way through and have no idea how the connections between the fourteen year old cat burglar, the pregnant wife, and the less-than-stellar police force will play out. Darkness, humour, and great characters—I’ll definitely be reading more from this writer!
Just started Wild Dark Shores. Very interesting subject and currently finding it hard to put down.
