What book or books are you reading this week? We’d love to know!
I just finished The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters, about a Native American family of berry pickers whose four-year-old daughter goes missing. The plot is character-driven and there’s not a lot of action, but I truly enjoyed it.
BTW, the BookBrowse discussion of this book will open on November 21.
Next up for me will be Our Evenings by Booker Prize-winning author Alan Hollinghurst. I haven’t read anything by this author yet, so I’m eager to get started on it!
I also listen to a lot of audiobooks, and currently I’m making my way through the Slough House/Slow Horses series by Mick Herron. I’m on book 3 (I think there are 7 in the series). They seem to start slow but really build up to a rip-roaring climax.
I’m currently reading Beast of the North Woods for First Impressions, the first person narration was a little tricky to get used to but now I’m really enjoying it.
I’m reading Devil is Fine by John Vercher. I’ve not read him before but I’m loving this one. It’s about a bi-racial man who is grieving the death of his son when he learns he has inherited a piece of property that was a former plantation passed down through his white mother’s side of the family. It utilizes dark humor as this character tries to get his brain around a swift series of events that have changed his life.
I’m giving author Tana French a try. I’m reading The Searcher. I chose it because I wanted to read a male protagonist for a change. I’d love to hear from any Tana French readers. What has been your experience with her writing?
Carol, the only Tana French book I’ve read was The Secret Place - one of the Dublin Murder Squad books. It’s been a while, but I remember liking it quite a bit. The only reason I haven’t picked up any of her other novels is that other books keep jumping in the way (how rude!).
Hi everyone! My current reads are:
- The Booklover’s Library, Madeline Martin
- Happy Land, Dolan Perkins-Valdez (ARC copy)
- Sailing for Grace, Joseph Bauer
- Somewhere Beyond the Sea, T.J. Klune
I read The Berry Pickers earlier this year. Not my favorite but I enjoyed it overall.
I just finished Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney. This was my first Alice Feeney book I read. Well, it blew my mind. I absolutely was astonished at the end . I totally did not see the ending coming. I highly recommend it
It reminded me of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, only a lot better. I love Agatha Christie, so that is saying something.
First, cute avatar!
I hope you’ll drop by the discussion of The Berry Pickers when it opens up in a few weeks. I’d love to hear your opinions on it.
Oooh, that looks like fun, Brenda! I’ll have to pick that one up.
(I can tell this thread is going to be bad for my TBR pile!)
I will drop by there and participate in the discussion.
My avatar is my 10 year old, Ziggy. A big bundle of love
I am enjoying this forum and app. I am getting used to it and like it
Well, thanks to BookBrowse , my tbr list is out of control. That is totally acceptable
Ziggy is a cutie! Glad you like the forum Brenda. And yes that it can be installed as an app is really nice, I’m investigating how to add that functionality to the main site as well.
Let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions before we share this with all of the members!
Just finished “The Covent of Water” by Abraham Verghese. Loved it! Next reads will be some David Baldacci, something quick and fun. Want to read The Berry Pickers when available from library.
I’m reading ‘Our Evenings’ by Alan Hollinghurst (Advance Reader Copy). This is my first by him and the writing is incredible. Has anyone else read any of his work?
Oh, I’m reading this now and loving his writing. This is also my first novel by him.
Awesome! I hope you’ll participate in the discussion when it opens.
Right? It’s pretty amazing.
I’ve just finished reading Piglet by Lottie Hazell. Has anyone else read it? It was a hard book to read. I didn’t really like the main character, and when the author took us along on her “panic attack” I didn’t want to go. But I know the issue of mental health is an important one for us to understand. I like to read as it it is good to “walk in someone else’s shoes” as they say, but sometimes it’s hard.
