God of the Woods by Liz Moore. Wow, is it good, and I’m only halfway through.
Yes, I thought the descriptions of food and cooking in the novel were next level. But I also didn’t love main character Piglet, even though she stepped up for those who truly loved her.
I really enjoyed God of the Woods! Best of year voting isn’t over yet but I think it’s a strong contender to be in the top 20.
I’m glad you’re enjoying that one. I really liked it as well. I enjoy complex mysteries like that one very much.
I am listening to the Story Collector By Evie Woods. I read The Lost Bookshop and enjoyed it.
I am also reading the ARC of The Oligarch’s Daughter: A Novel by Joseph Finder, which will be published in January 2025. It is very interesting, exciting, and good so far. I am halfway through the novel.
I’m interested in hearing what you think of The Oligarch’s Daughter once you’ve finished it. Finder has been on my list forever, but I still haven’t read any of his books. Would this be a good one to start on, or is there another you’d recommend I read first?
Just finishing up Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan. It is so meaningful to me. I was born and raised in south central Kansas and live in Southwest Kansas. Both of my parents lived through it with my mother being especially affected. She and her family lived at Liberal which was near the epicenter of the worst hit. She was one of the children hospitalized with dust pneumonia and had to have a chest tube placed. The Dust Bowl affected not only those that came through it, but also their children and grandchildren.
I just finished Book and Dagger by Elyse Graham. A fascinating book about academics’ roles and contributions to spycraft during WW II. For readers who like to read non-fiction that reads like fiction, this book isn’t one.
I loved Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez. Looking forward to Happy Land.
I am reading Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry, a very backlist book, and a historical fiction novel called A Most English Princess by Clare McHugh. Both excellent!
Take My Hand has been on my TBR feels like forever. Happy Land was an easy five stars for me!
That is great to hear! Just added the book to my library’s recommend to purchase list.
I am usually reading several books at once. This week I am finishing up The Book of Silver Linings by Nan Fischer for my book club and I had to start Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout. I am also reading Beast of the North Woods on my kindle as a first impressions read. I love them all!
I am reading The Grace Year for my bookclub. Not my favorite but I like the message.
This is the first book from the author that I am reading. I let you know what I think when I finish.
James. by Percival Evertt and After Annie by Anna Quindlin.
Both books were “I can’t put it down” books
I’m reading Beast of the North Woods by Annelise Ryan this week - I received it as part of BookBrowse’s First Impressions program.
