The Bluest Eye for the online book club is next up for me, and I’m still listening to the latest book of Michael J. Sullivan’s Expeditionary Force series (book 17 - and it’s over 20 hours so it’ll be a while).

The Mighty Red by Erdrich. **Despair, love, abandonment - characterization is rich; typical of Erdrich.

I finished THE SECRET HISTORY OF AUDREY JAMES by Heather Marshall. It is SO GOOD - I didn’t want to put it down.

It is out February 25 - I would definitely put it on your TBR if you are a women’s fiction and historical fiction fan.

Only a few pages left of Joan Didion’s Run River. Waiting for my copy of The Frozen River but not today already received my mail. No library requests ready to pick up. But many books I can read from my home library but not sure what??

Martyr! By Kaveh Akbar. I saw it on so many readers’ best of 2024, I had to try it. So far, so good!

I have been reading A Little Life by Yanagihara since receiving a copy for Christmas. I am totally blown away by this masterfully written, beautiful and gripping story of love, relationships, trauma with a protagonist, whose story I will never forget!

In keeping with a stated goal on another thread, I’ve already dnf’d two books.

I’m listening to Night Side of the River: Ghost Stories by Jeanette Winterson.

Started a six-month buddy read of The Power Broker by Robert Caro.

Just started The Great River: The Making and Unmaking of the Mississippi by Boyce Upholt. It’s about the Mississippi River.

Soldiers and Kings by Jason de Leon–Normally I listen to books at a fairly rapid clip, but given the subject matter (the world of human smuggling), I suspect I will ingest this “work of extraordinary reportage and compassion” in small increments.

I’m waiting for my copy of Frozen River, too! Hoping USPS hasn’t lost it.

I’m reading Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s DREAM COUNT (out in March—her first novel in 10 years!) and also, on the nonfiction side, Laura Marris’s gorgeous THE AGE OF LONELINESS, which pairs wonderfully with Lydia Millet’s WE LOVED IT ALL, which I read late last year; both are hybrid memoirs/essays about species extinction and climate grief but I confess I am enjoying the Marris much more than the Millet, which surprised me!

I stumbled upon All Systems Red by Martha Wells. Totally unlike me - space and robots - but I love it. LOVE it! I can’t wait to read the entire Murderbot Diaries series.
