What are you reading this week? Please share! We’d love to know.
I’m finishing up Daughters of Shandong and then it’s on to The Lilac People, both for discussion here. Then I’ve got a new book on the horizon: The Names by Florence Knapp. Should be good!
In audiobook format, I’m listening to Hour of the Witch by Chris Bohjalian and enjoying it immensely.
I’m reading Sedition Hunters by Ryan Reilly and just about to start listening to Heartwood by Amity Gage.
I recently dnf’d Bohjalian’s newest: The Jackal’s Mistress. It just wasn’t working for me as an audio. I might revisit it in print.
For one of my book clubs I am reading an older book, Firefly Lane. For another book club reading Homegoing, this is my Banned bookclub at my library. We read banned books then discuss why would people want to ban this???
“Strangers in Time” by David Baldacci. I’ve not had much time to devote to it; hoping to really get through it this weekend. Certainly not his usual fare but I like it (so far) but I’m a sucker for WW II English Home Front books.
Daughters in Shandong is so good. Everyone should read it.
Hopefully finishing The Wide Wide Sea this weekend and starting The Frozen River.
Reading Austen by the Sea by Natalie Jenner. Loved her previous Austen related novel, this one is out May 6.
I just finished The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. One of my book clubs read it last month but I wasn’t able to attend. It was excellent and I loved the Author’s note at the end.
“The Restaurant of Lost Recipes” (Hisashi Kashiwai) and “The Blue Horse” (Bruce Borgos).
Reading The Drowning Woman by Robyn Harding which is quite good and looking forward to the publishing date for Heartwood by Amity Gaige.
*Kim,
These are the last few books I’ve read:
More or Less Maddy by Lisa Genova
The Women by Kristin Hannah
Wednesday’s Child by Yiyun Li (short stories)
The Hypocrite by Jo Hayma
i just finished listening to the Gey Wolf by Louise Penny. Which I really enjoyed! I am listening to Strangers in Time by David Balducci, and Reading The Patron Saint of Second Chances by Christine Simon for a book club that I belong to.
Finishing José Andrés’ new book Change the Recipe. It is a short inspirational read and call-to-action from an amazing humanitarian. In addition to reading the book, I have been listening to the audiobook narrated by Andrés himself. His passion and enthusiasm brings his words alive.
This week I’m relistening to Hello Beautiful for a book club. I’m reading The Sunflower House by Adriana Allegri which is about the Lebensborn program. I just happened to see it at our library and it’s very good. I’m also reading The Book Club for Troublesome Women and isn’t that a great title?
I’m reading The Talented Miss Farwell by Emily Gray Tedrowe. It’s delightful!
Pride and prejudice - Jane Austen
52 weeks a party of one - Bianca Pensy Aba
Story of my life - Lucy Score
The story she left behind - Patti Callahan Henry
Lessons in chemistry - Bonnie Garmus
Anything you do say - Gillian McAllister
The assistant - Winter K. Willis
The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest hits - Jennifer Weiner
All excellent reads!
Just finished Bicycling With Butterflies by Sara Dykman. Sarah is an Outdoor educator. She recounts her 10,000 mile, 9 month solo trek from Mexico across the US to Canada following the Monarch Butterflies. People she encounters, physical challenges she conquered, beauty along her trail and the lessons she shared are all included. You will want to plant milkweed seeds as I am doing to assist these beautiful creatures.
I love Penny, but this one was a bit confusing for me. Hoping the Black Wolf which comes out this fall will help tie up the loose ends.
Currently reading Miss Austen by Gill Hornby for the PBS Book Readers Club April Discussion on April 30 and the premiere of the Masterpiece series on PBS on May 4.
Finishing up the audiobook of The Dry by Jane Harper. Have learned the cause of the recent deaths of a prominent family and still hoping to learn what really happened in a death of many, many years ago.
DNF American Kompromat; important material, but I just couldn’t get into it.
