I’m reading Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton. I’m a little over halfway through it and really enjoying it! I’m also reading sections of Finnegans Wake as a readalong…this one is tough!

I’m doing something I rarely do, and that’s reread a book. Not only am I rereading *Lessons in Chemistry for the upcoming BookBrowse book group discussion, but I’m listening to Skeletons at the Feast in prep for the discussion here with Chris Bohjalian next week. I read that one many years ago (pre-Kindle!) and didn’t remember it well. I’m enjoying it the second time around.

(*Yeah, we know Lessons in Chemistry hasn’t shown up yet. We’ve been in contact with the publisher several times but don’t have a good answer yet. Sorry for the delay!)

On a side note, I discovered another reason to love ebooks: I didn’t have to search my house for a copy of a book I knew I had somewhere. It was right there in my digital library!

@Anne_Glasgow I just reviewed Careless People. I’m curious what you think of it once you’re done.

I just started The Café with No Name by Robert Seethaler. Also, finishing up On Call by Dr. Fauci (what an amazing human) and Circling the Sun by Paula McLain.

@Anne_Glascow Response to your question from last week. I am enjoying Harlem Rhapsody, but its not quite as literary as I expected. The jury is out, but I’ll try to post the outcome once I finish. I’ve found myself in the middle of three books at once so bear with me. :slightly_smiling_face:
Also interested in hearing your take on Careless People. I had high recommendations from two other readers I trust. It will be awhile before it rises to the top of my Holds list.

I’m reading Daughters of Shandong and having read The Mountain Sings by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai I endorse BookBrowse’s choice of it as a Read Alike for Daughters of Shandong.
I would also suggest The Dragons, The Giant, The Women by Wayetu Moore. Both are superb memoirs that increased my knowledge of and compassion for the struggles of people caught in the webs of war.

I’m also reading We Refuse: A Forceful History of Black Resistance by Kellie Carter Jackson.

Just finished “We All Live Here” by Jojo Moyes and have started “Two Weddings & a Murder”, the last installment of the Lady & Lady’s Maid series by Alyssa Maxwell. I also have Ted Kooser’s “Raft” to read for Poetry Month.

I just finished The Silence of the Girls, the first volume in Pat Barker’s trilogy about women during the Trojan War and after. I highly recommend.

“My Friends” by Hisham Matar. I was 8 when the Qaddafi stuff happened so I am learning a lot about Libya. I read “The Return,” nonfiction by the same author and a lot of the themes are similar.

That’s a tough read but worth it.

The Mountain Sings is a masterpiece.

I have had Happy Land by Dolen Perkins-Valdez on hold for ages. NPR featured an interview with the author just this past Sunday wherein the importance of speaking with older family members so as not to lose important historical information was a major focus. And lo and behold, the eAudio book was available to be checked out the next day. The book is based on historical events and is narrated by two different people, making it all the more engaging for me. The family history at the core of this novel is brought to life by the author in a most unique way.
