What are you reading this week? (04/10/2025)

On my wait list–good to hear you enjoyed reading it.

I finished Jackal’s Mistress several weeks ago and was genuinely sorry to have it end. I hadn’t read a book written by Bohjalian in a very long time and reading JM reminded me why I like his writing style so very much.

I have read all of Liane Moriarty’s books. They never disappoint, do they? This seemed a bit of a departure, which I very much enjoyed, because she can take any topic and weave a tale that both plucks the heartstrings and sends the reader into paroxysms of laughter.

Oh Raising Hare is so so beautiful! A 5 star for me!

So wonderful! It was a 5 star for me.

My Friends by Fredrik Bachman. I haven’t gotten very far, but I am already drawn in by his characters and his plot! I’ve even choked up a bit at a couple points.

I love Wayetu Moore’s books to the depth of my heart. She is a beautiful person and a brilliant writer with a very interesting story to tell. I wish she would write another novel.

Thanks Barb. I will probably finish Careless People on my walk this morning so I can respond to you and Kim with thoughts.

I picked up Harlem Rhapsody from my bookstore yesterday. I’m not sure when I read it but I look forward to your thoughts about it.

Yes, it’s a challenging read. I read history about the “real” island. In some respects the people had quite the life and in other respects they had quite the life!

Re: Careless People
I just finished the audio. I was not surprised by much because I’ve lived a long life in the business world but also because I heard a couple of interviews she recorded before being banned from doing them.

I hate most of what they get away with. Rampant sexual abuse, lying, and lack of balance. The fact that Zuck perjured himself before congress is something we should all be concerned about. There is a mindset among these tech guys that they should never be impacted by any sort of gov’t regulations or moderation. If they get power it will not bode well for us.

Overall I thought the book was an interesting view inside the company. I’m glad Sarah got out.

Currently reading True or False: A CIA Analyst’s Guide to Spotting Fake News by Cindy L. Otis. It should be required reading for every adult and young adult in America. Currently listening to The Dry by Jane Harper. I have to rewind sometimes to catch a word through the Aussie accent, but am enjoying it.

Enjoyed Girl Falling and Colored Television. Blood Moon, not so much which needed more mystery and less sex.

I loved that book. The ending was great.

I just finished LA Women. What a trip back to the 60s and 70s!

Reading Becoming Madame Secretary. Love this historical fiction about Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor under F. Roosevelt administration and architect of the social programs of the New Deal which have endured for over 80 years and are currently under assault. Listening to The Familiar. History with a touch of magic. Divine!
