I admire your discipline! I vow to start reading the books on my shelves (and floor) then I see a book at the library where I take my granddaughters and all resolve disappears.
That’s a good one Kim, might need to do a newsletter poll about that!
I’m too afraid to count
The library saves me here. Probably 25 books?
Are you dodging the question, @nick??
I’m afraid to even look at my audiobook library. When I joined Audible maybe 20 years ago I had two accounts, each of which allowed me two books per month. I’ve since dropped to one account, but I know my list of unlistened to books has to be huge.
But…one of the many things I appreciate with Brook Browse is that I can track the books I want to read at a later date without feeling so compulsed to buy new books soon after they are published. Not counting the books on my Book Browse want to read list, I am comfortable saying there are over 300 books on my book shelves that are TBR. I’d give a more precise number, except for the fact that counting would cur into today’s reading time
It’s funny, I used to be pretty good about this and probably only had a couple of business books / free books on my kindle that I hadn’t read, but when I go to library conferences I end up coming back with a dozen or so titles, so now I probably have 20-30 that are sitting on my bookshelf. My wife does a pretty good job of going through them though!
Too, too many. We’re talking double digits.
Shelfs full, and that’s after I’ve sent trunk loads to our library book sale and to the Literary Council. Someone said basically the same thing and wondered why he/she keeps buying more. I wonder the same!
Too many to count! And it doesn’t help that my library has used book sales with a shelf that is free!
Seriously? I do NOT want a count! When I need additional shelf space for books,
I find crates or discarded wooden boxes and CREATE more space. I consider
owning books is like having money in the bank!
Probably over a 100! And I keep buying more!!
Just checked…I have 480 unread on my kindle! Eek! That’s about 10 years worth. Yes I just bought 3 yesterday
That’s a good question, lol. At any given time I probably have about 6-8 unread “to be read “ books on my table. I see or hear of ppls recommendations and can’t resist, but am still reading one, and have another in queue but I’ll still purchase and add to pile! It’s my addiction!
@Amber_H I think you win the award, LOL. It just means you have to be around a good long time to finish up all those books.
Me: I will not buy more books.
Also me: Ooohhh, that looks good!
I think e-readers really enable this sort of behavior. When I had stacks of books all over the place, I felt like they were glaring at me accusingly. (“Another new book?!? When are you going to read me!?”). And then there’s my hubby. Hard to justify bringing more into the house with so many unread books around.
But now that I have a Kindle, no one except me knows how many books I buy, hahahaha. Very enabling.
I completely agree that Kindle drives this! It is so easy and tempting, especially when books are on a hot sale. I think if I had to visually see a pile I’d cut back (maybe???). I definitely have physical books too - just not as many anymore!
In addition, those Kindle books don’t take up any room at all. Another reason to amass hundreds.
Kindle tells me I have 313 unread books. However, some are those BookBub really cheap books I suspect that I’ll never read. Those found their way onto my app when I was going through a phase where I thought I might run out of books to read. Ha! Thank goodness my local library, online library sources and interlibrary loans that have curbed my buying.
None! I have downsized and do not have much shelf space. I do not buy many books any more because of that. But I’m at the library every week!
