Overall, what did you think of The River Knows Your Name? (no spoilers, please!)
This book hooked me in and had me trying not to cry in the break room at work when I was finishing it. The characters were relatable, and i overall loved it.
A bit confusing to keep the time frames and characters straight, but also interesting to see the difficulties of women living alone and their sources of support.
I agree with Linda-Hunter’s comments - but by the end, I understood I was looking at the underside of a tapestry, and when I turned it over, it was an exquisitely detailed image.
I really enjoyed this haunting atmospheric southern story that paints a vivid picture of the Mississippi Delta and its people. The characters are well developed and loved the backstories.
I really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job showing the strength, love, resilience, and power women have as mothers protecting both their children and those entrusted to them.
Thanks for this comment. I had to jot down the time frames and bits of their character until I had the sequence noted. It was frustrating. The book had interesting characters and eventually I could see the interconnections.
Well written with well developed characters. I really enjoy dual timelines & this did not disappoint. Heartbreaking at times. This is the first of this author that I have read but will definitely read more.
I did enjoy this book, and I would recommend it. As others have mentioned, I did initially struggle with the time frames and understanding the relationships. I was surprised I was struggling since I read a lot of dual timelines. After I wrote a few notes, I fully got it, and I appreciated the interconnections. The settings were so well described, I felt I had been there. Any initial discomfort was rewarded by such an immersive read.
A beautifully written book although also heartbreaking. Many wonderful women starting with Lotte who raises Becca after her parents die. Becca a young mother loses her daughter, another young woman Hazel giving up her dreams to save a small child. Two girls Nell and Evie confused about their lives. and a not so wonderful evil mother in law.
I did enjoy this book, and would recommend it to those who enjoy who enjoy books that are set in the south. I do agree with others who commented that keeping track of the characters required a bit of effort. The author does a wonderful job of setting the scene. Her descriptions are lyrical. She also creates memorable cast of characrers.
I loved this book from the first chapter. In fact, even before I finished it I went out and bought The Girls in the Stilt House. I also shared my thoughts with our local library Book Brunch group.
Very much enjoyed the book.
I found this to be a complex story but very believable. I thought it was touching and memorable. It really drew me in from the beginning, although I did have to take some notes of characters and timeframes like others said. I look forward to sharing this book with friends.
It was a wonderful story! I loved the dual timelines, both set in the past. The theme of family relationships was driven home. The mystery propelled the book. I also liked that it was set in the south.
I think this is a great book. I will definitely recommend it to others especially my book club members. The writing is good and the plot kept me wanting to know what was going to happen to all the interesting characters.
I really had trouble with this book. I wanted to like it but I stayed confused on who people were (there weren’t many!) and how they related to each other and what year it was. I think they the characters were not fully developed. If I had known more about them, I could have better linked them to each other and the story. I think a good editor could have helped this.
Overall, I really liked the book especially the last part when it all came together. The dual timeline worked well. I had a little trouble keeping up with who the different characters were and how they all related. It came together on over in the book.
This book held my attention all the way through. There was a “tension” that the author created in the first couple of chapters and it drew me in immediately. It was like putting a puzzle together. Lots of pieces that all came together in the end.
The storyline is engaging with a hint of mystery. The characters are fully developed and very likable. Kelly Mustain weaves her two timelines seamlessly while bringing this book to a heartwarming conclusion.
