Overall, what did you think of Haven’t Killed in Years? (no spoilers, please!)
I gave it a 3 star. The story kept introducing new characters and I kept thinking, now is this the killer….
I give it 3 stars. Really good. Enough to make the reader keep going. But, overall, I found it preposterous in many ways.
It was a fun read although I could never completely take it seriously. It was a three star for me, as well
I really enjoyed it for the first 100 pages or so and thought it was a quick read. Then I felt like it went a little bit off the rails with some surprising actions by a few characters and took me a bit longer to get through the second half. I would rate it 3.5 stars.
It was just very ok for me. I’d give it 3 stars. Didnt think it was all that well written, the depth of characters fell short. Just a strange book and strange premise.
I agree strange book and strange premise, but I liked it well enough for a 4. I loved all the twists and turns; every time I thought I understood it, I didn’t. It did go slightly off the rails at the end.
Hey, if a mystery can keep me entertained and can keep me guessing it’ll almost certainly be a four-star book or better for me. I thought it was well-written, and although I agree that sometimes one had to suspend disbelief, I still enjoyed it.
It was a 4 star book for me. I enjoyed reading it. I like a mystery that keeps me guessing and more than that I like a mystery that has a surprise ending! And I was surprised!
I liked the book but didn’t love it. The characters were not likable and there were so many characters i couldn’t keep them straight after a while. I love thrillers/ mysteries but when i put this one down i had a hard time picking it up again. Very slow moving .
One of the smartest thrillers I’ve read in a very long while. “Haven’t Killed in Years” by Amy Green is not only troublesome, but sharply written, and filled with several shady surprises. After having only read the first 20 pages and I was hooked.Green’s pacing is masterful, halfway through she introduces another pivotal character. Her arrival offers fascinating insights to Gwen’s life, especially her early childhood and the time she spent at a boarding school. The ending. . . what a twist, cleverly done. Her character development is shrewd. Green had no plot holes and left no loose threads for her readers. Its final pages are wrapped up with a very clever and satisfying punch. If you are a lover of the psychological thriller, fascinated with serial killers or many other kinds of layered characters, this is a book for you.
I really liked it! The story was fast moving and I enjoyed the character development along the way. It definitely felt fresh and not too bogged down by gore and overstated details.
Overall, it was a decent read. Every major character carries emotional or psychological baggage, and that weight threads through the entire story.
I gave it 4 stars because I really enjoyed it. The theme was very dark but comical at the same time. I’d recommend this book to others.
I enjoyed this book! Interesting protagonist because who thinks about the lives of serial killers’ children?
Book began with lots of possibilities of whodunnits and ended with a satisfying ending of the killer. What more can I ask for a mystery read? My rating: 4.0 for readers who like mysteries; 3.5 who don’t like mysteries (b/c good characters, plot and writing style).
The writing was excellent & I was hooked but as I continued reading I didn’t like where the author was taking us. I would give it a 3 .
I thought the writing was weak and the character development poor as well. I almost felt the father (the known convicted killer) should have been more present in helping Gwen figure out who was killer, like a pseudo Hannibal Lechter.
It was a slow start for me. I wasn’t on board with the premise but as it developed I became more engrossed and wanted to figure it out with her.
I enjoyed this book. The title made me curious and captured my interest. I thought the story developed well through adding additional characters and changing plot twists.
I enjoyed this book very much. I found the story fascinating and was never bored. I particularly liked the author’s writing style. It felt very conversational and easy to follow. I read the book in just a few days as I didn’t want to put it down. ![]()
