Gwen finds a dismembered arm in a box at her door and opts to move it (and the subsequent body part she discovers) to another location to by found by someone else. Why do you suppose she takes this course of action? In her circumstances, do you think her actions were reasonable?
I think she wanted no one to know her true identity. I thought it was a poor decision! She could have been accused of killing both of the men. But of course if the author chose not to do this it would have been a different book!
A person with a normal upbringing would have contacted the police if they found body parts at their door. However, because of Gwen’s background, she didn’t want any association with murders because she might be blamed for them. She was also afraid that the person responsible for the dismemberments was threatening her. I think her action to hide the arms is logical due to her past history.
Most people would call the police immediately, however Gwen is not like most people, she is the daughter of a serial killer who took her on some of his killing missions. She was afraid of being identified, She was hiding and wanted to continue to do so. I do not believe she ever thought about the fact it could continue to happen, beware of the next step.
My first thought was….what the hell? You get on a bus and drop it behind a dumpster? Sure, lady. It seemed so illogical that it affected how I read the rest of the book.
Based on the Gwen’s backstory in the book, I suppose one can understand why she may have chosen to move the dismembered arm. However, in the real world there is no way would I ever think her actions were reasonable even if she were the daughter of a serial killer. I suppose that’s why it’s called fiction. ![]()
I agree. It also seemed her instincts kicked in, which we understand when we find out her father was grooming her to kill.
I think it was reasonable. Her parents were serial killers and she had a new identity. She thought she was safer to keep it that way
I think it was reasonable in the story because she watched her father kill as a child so a severed arm would not have been as disturbing to her as it would be to someone else and she was trying to protect her identity.
I held my breath when she did it, but it made sense to protect her identity.
Gwen was not brought up in a normal family ,which damaged her, emotionally and also her thinking skills. She made a bad decision.
Well, Gwen certainly handled that differently than I would have, but I wasn’t raised by a serial killer, so I guess that probably goes without saying…. I would have assumed she would have gotten caught by discarding the arms like she did, but she had better insight into the situation and I can see that she was pretty street savvy and also not really bothered by the way that she got rid of the arms.
It seemed reasonable for the internal logic of the story. It was not real world reasonable (getting on a bus with a body part), but it did fit the logic of the novel.
I thought that for her, in somewhat of a panic, made a decision that seemed to make sense to her at the time.
Because of her past, I think she was afraid she would be blamed for it. And also that her identity would come out.
In no world is this reasonable, but as others have said, her background made it a reasonable action for her. I have a relative in police work, and he would never excuse her behavior.
She was trying to maintain her secret identity and keep that life as far away from her as possible
