Do you use Little Free Libraries, and if so, how?

This question comes courtesy of @Elizabeth. Do you have one or more Little Free Library in your neighborhood, and if so, do you use it? Are you someone who adds books, borrows books, or do you do both?

I have one not far from my house. I walk by on my neighborhood walks. It is so cute it matches their house. I have stopped a few times and looked at the books but did not take one. I hope to see them sometime when they are outside and ask if they would like me to bring some books.

I love when I find Little Free Libraries that match the house.

I am sure the owner would LOVE for you to put books in, Paula. I don’t think you need to ask.

I LOVE visiting Little Free Libraries - I add more books than take them.

I actually have a stamp that I put on my books so I know it’s mine. It says: Not for Sale - Share It!

I found one of my books I had put in a Little Free Library in one location and found it just a few miles from my home at another location. I had happened upon the one where I found my book - finding one I didn’t see on the Little Free Library app and especially finding that my book traveled is more exciting than finding a book.

Here is the Little Free Library App URL: Little Free Library World Map - Little Free Library

You can put in your ZIP, and it tells you where there are Little Free Libraries.

Great question Elizabeth, thanks for providing those resources!

We have one between our home and the beach so I have pulled out an Elin Hildebrand to have a beach read. I definitely need to help stock it up though, waiting for better weather!

@Paula_Walters did you know that you can usually look up the owners of a little free library? I’ve done this a couple of times to see if they want a quantity of books all at once or if a certain type of book is a good fit. People usually respond very promptly.

I did not know that, thank you.

That is so cool @Elizabeth! I can’t believe you found your book in another library. I also didn’t know there was an app.

Unfortunately I don’t live in a very good neighborhood. I know of two attempts to create Little Free Libraries near me, both of which were vandalized and consequently removed. Love the concept, though! I really enjoy stumbling across them in other places and always look at the titles.

I didn’t know that either unless they have their e-mail on the app when you look up the address.

Thanks.

I know - finding my book in another Little Free Library was exciting.

And the app is such fun when you see these red balloons indicating there are Little Free Libraries in that ZIP/Location.

I ALWAYS open the app if I am in a place I am traveling through that I haven’t been before.

Have fun finding Little Free Libraries in your area or where you are traveling.

BTW…they have to be registered to show up on the app.

Yes…they get better traffic in warmer weather.

I have visiting Little Free Libraries since last Spring.

Yes, that’s exactly it. You find the LFL and click on the info to get the email, if it has been provided.

I LOVE stumbling across them when they aren’t on the app.

That makes it more fun to just see one out in the open and one that I didn’t know was even there.

That’s too bad someone vandalized the Little Free Libraries.

Yes! There’s one about 5 houses down from me. I have not taken any books from it, but when I take my evening walk, if I see its inventory is looking poorly, I will run home and grab some books to fill it.

I love the Little Free libraries. I haven’t visited one in a while as now I live in. 55+ community that has their own library. It is all donations from residents of the community. You have to sign out the book but there is no pressure to return it by a certain date. I love donating the books that I have read.

I live in a retirement community and we have a park where my book club put a little free library. We try to keep it updated and books rotating. It is used quite a bit except in the winter. I don’t personally use it.

My husband built a LFL and we installed it by our mailboxes. Because we are a gated community, this is not a registered library but there are many readers in our little neighborhood and the library does see action. I keep the books tidy and friends give me books to add. Right now we are overloaded with detective series and I will likely take a bunch of them to a HUGE LFL nearby and swap out some books.

I have one about 2 doors down from my house. In fact my husband built it for my neighbor. Its very popular. I’ve placed books and taken them in between bookclub reads. She monitors it to keep it tidy. Its an asset to our neighborhood.
