No. I do love the idea of them but our city doesn’t have any around (or at least that I know of).
I have one at my home. It brings such joy to me. I love to watch out my kitchen window while doing my morning dishes and see my neighbors stopping and using it. It brings to mind what we are all missing. . . . . a sense of community. I am always amazed when a car stops and the occupants steps out to look at my selections.
I actually have a Little Free Library in my front yard. Just before I set it up, I entered a book giveaway contest—and won 42 books! So I had plenty to stock it with right from the start. I love watching kids get excited to open the door, grab a book or two, and sometimes leave one behind.
I’m part of a few book clubs, and in one of them, we’re planning a day trip to visit several Little Free Libraries by mapping out their locations.
Carol, I love that you have one too! I had a lady actually knock on my door to tell me that it was kismet stopping at my LFL, as she found the book that her book club chose to read.
I too stamp my books on top, side, and bottom—ALWAYS FREE, NEVER FOR SALE
How wonderful. I love mine, my girls gave it to me one Mother’s Day. My granddaughter painted and decorated with whimsical books and worms. My job is to keep it filled and happy. One of my favorite things to do when I am visiting one of my daughters in the Seatte area is to map out a route and visit some of their unique library. One of my favorites has three in a row, one for adults, one for children and one for their pets. How clever some people can be!!!
I haven’t gotten a book for me from a Little Free Library. I have a neighbor in my little tiny town who is retired elementary teacher who maintains a LFL of children’s books. My grandchildren enjoy getting books from it when they visit.
I’m a member of the public library’s Friends group in a nearby larger town and we maintain a LFL in a park on the opposite side of town from the public library. Members are scheduled to switch the books out at the beginning of each month.
So good to hear your LFL is geared towards children. As a retired school librarian, I miss watching their eyes sparkle when being read to by me. One of my favorite books, Marshmallow Ghosts
will always bring a chuckle or two, It was my favorite Halloween read and art project. It is so important that we continue to spread the joy of reading to our young people. What adventures they can have through them!!! Thank you for doing your part!
