With each new husband, Lauren discovers that the weddings she had with these men vary wildly from man to man. Did that surprise you? Does it ring true for you that the celebrations would change so drastically with each partner?

A wedding is usually a reflection of both spouses and their families. Thus, one would select different weddings for different relationships.

It makes sense and it was a thoughtful detail for the author to include. The wedding is what both husband and wife want, and as the husband changes, so does the wedding!

This was no surprise. Not everyone wants the white dress multi-thousand dollar wedding with everyone in attendance. And not everyone wants the steal away just the two of us wedding in a courthouse. A wedding is as individualized as the couple - there is no right or wrong way.

I absolutely think that weddings would change with each partner. Both partners are getting married and the ceremony would be designed for the two of them. I think each situation would be unique.

I think that part of the book was a little unrealistic - if Lauren was the same person throughout, then I would think she would want a similar type of wedding. Usually, it’s the bride who has her vision of a dream wedding, but I could be wrong, I’ve been married for 108 years! Maybe things have changed?

I think the weddings would change per husband. Lauren stayed Lauren but the different types of men brought different weddings. I think that is realistic. The wedding albums seen through Lauren’s eye and her reactions to the pictures, gave the readers a clue on what type of man her husband was.

I too think the weddings would change depending on her husband. Granted, she was the same person but would probably compromise with some of what her fiance wanted.

I agree with others here. Weddings change because of the personalities and preferences of the bride and groom. It was interesting to see the differences. It seemed to surprise Lauren as well.

Interestingly, I never really tuned in to the weddings, just skimmed through those descriptions. I was much more interested in Lauren’s observations of each new husband and details around which she made her decisions.

The change of husbands affected everything else - the wedding, the apartment decor, etc. It only seems reasonable that these changes would also take place. Doesn’t environment (life in general) affect all of us in some ways. It may be health issues, move to a different city, travel, etc. Change is part of everyday living. Yes, Lauren’s changes are drastic but that reflects the author’s purpose in writing this story. Change of husbands = Change in Everything!

Yes I found this plausible, because your personality, your life, and your decisions can be influenced by others in your life, and someone as significant as a husband definitely would do that. Even though a wedding is more appreciated by the women, men still have some input into it and I think this is also why each of Lauren’s weddings is different.

Yes it rang true. The current husband was involved in the planning I’m sure. I liked that touch–made it seem real.

I definitely think the weddings would have been different with different partners… it is such an individualistic expression of your love, I don’t know how it couldn’t have been different.

I would sure hope that her future husband had some input! After all, it was his wedding too!
I’m not clear if the past weddings would have been on the same date? Sometimes, the timing can affect what kind of wedding is planned.
