William asks his uncle if Jack’s right when he says that “If you care for someone…then you should let them see all of who you are. He says that’s what love is” (p. 253). What’s your opinion on the subject?
I agree with Jack. It is best to be honest, especially with someone you love, and especially with your friends. I felt bad for William that he could not confess to his friends what had really happened and that he did not have a book deal. They still would have liked him and cared for him.
I truly believe honesty should always prevail. It’s okay to show your frailties, its being human. Being human encompasses a rich tapestry of qualities that shape our thoughts, emotions, and actions. I have found each time I have personally strayed from the truth, it (the little white lies) comes back to haunt me. Better to bite the bullet, begin by being honest, and build the relationship.
I totally agree that is what Love is; being honest, and vulnerable with someone. A relationship can only be genuine and real if people are willing to be open and honest with one another.
I agree with Jack. You need to tell the truth. That is what relationships are all about. Honesty and truth are very important. You want to trust the person you are sharing your life with.
Honesty is ALWAYS important in good relationships - whether friends or lovers. A lie can ruin even the best relationship when it comes to light – and it seems like they always do.
I do know that honesty is paramount in a relationship. A partner may not really need to know every single thing about you, but you also cannot lie about anything. You have to be honest when the question is being asked. People tend to change depending on who they are with. You are one person with a spouse, another with a child, another with your own mother, another as an employee. People have a lot of personas, to fit whatever situation they are in. They are all you and as long as you are honest, they all work together.
I do think that relationships are difficult without honesty. People need to know who they are committing to in a relationship. Just, look at Evelyn’s father. I’m sure that Cecelia thought she was marrying a different kind of man, even though Clara and Cecelia’s mother may have had glimpses of his true character early in their relationship.
You can’t have love without honesty. If you don’t really show someone who you are, then you are not vulnerable and taking a real risk, and true love is unattainable.
