Who from the silent book club do you think impacted Grace the most?
I think Annie had the most impact on Grace’s life. She is the one who encouraged her to come back to book club and who Grace spent individual time with on walks and meetings for coffee or tea. They became a support for one another.
Annie is the obvious choice here, but one could argue the dude with the cat had a pretty major influence as well, in ultimately helping her move beyond her grief.
Oh yes. Loved the cat!
I agree that Annie probably had the most impact on Grace. But I think each of the characters had an impact on her, in their own way. It made me think about how so many people impact (or have impacted) my life in different ways.
I agree with the others - Annie. They were honest with each other and really provided a shoulder to lean on for each other. Annie pushed Grace, but not too much, it almost seemed like she always knew where the boundary was and was careful not to cross it which would have resulted in Grace retreating and isolating herself again. I think that Grace listened to Annie in a way that Frank would have liked to have been listened to.
Yes, I think it has to be Annie. Grace sensed that Annie needed a friend to confide in, and Annie certainly seemed like someone who could help Grace with her grief. But they were all an interesting group and we learned more about them as the novel progressed.
From the perspective of ensuring Grace continued with the Silent Book Club, it’s Annie who encouraged Grace to stay in contact with her and to continue in the book club. But, I think Frank’s conversation with Grace about his late wife’s interest in Grace’s store was an “aha” moment for Grace when she realized how we are often interconnected to people we haven’t yet met.
I agree Annie had the greatest impact. She made Grace feel wanted for herself. For so long, she was an appendage to Frank and then her daughter and grandson. But after Annie, the others all impacted her significantly in different ways and created a community she leaned on and eventually led. Annie showed how she could support others as well as be supported herself.
Initially Grace bonded with Annie but each person in the group affected Grace in their own way. Without realizing it, Grace stopped thinking about her own grief and began to move on.
Annie but all the characters (and the CAT) really added to the story. Annie would be the kind of person with whom I would want to be friends.
Annie was one who most needed a friend without judgement and Grace was that friend. Grace affected all of the group members in some way (and positively!) just as she was affected by their acceptance of her.
I think that Annie impacted Grace the most but I also think that all of the members of the book club impacted her in different ways
