I’m terrible about writing down quotes but I enjoyed the scenes in Effie’s home where she cared for her siblings.
I liked the bonding scenes between Effie and her newly found niece.
My favorite scene was when it became evident that Anya had returned to save Effie, in a turnabout of the ways Effie had saved her. I was heartened at how strong their bond had become.
My favorite was when Effie and Tia - finally safe - were together on the porch steps just after Effie received her fathers letter.
A second scene was the letter that was left on the window sill at the very end of the novel.
