Which of the four sisters (Kit, Ivy, Helen and Rose) do you identify with most, and why?
Helen because I have children and would be more concerned about them
I think I identified with Ivy the most because she showed the biggest strength and bravado especially when no one suspected that of her. Being Balkan, our biggest personality trait is doing something in spite of someone - if someone tells us we can’t do something, we’ll do it even more just to prove them wrong, and I feel like that’s Ivy’s character too. She would do whatever it takes because it’s the right thing to do and she would go to the extreme to protect those she cares about which is another character trait I share with her.
I would love to think I could be like Ivy, but I’m not sure I could. I would be more like Helen due to my children being my first concern. I would definitely do something at home to help the war effort, but being spy – I think I would be too frightened to even try that.
I think I’m probably the most like Rose - bookish. I wish the author had developed her story a bit more.
I’m a Helen. I would have stayed home to take care of the family. I would have a hard time accepting my “gift” of second sight.
Helen. She is a mother and her kids came first for her. That is how I am.
Ivy’s story was the most played out for us, while the other sisters were more in the background which was much needed. I don’t have an emotional feeling one way or the other for any of the sisters. That’s not answering your question.
Helen… since I like the “concrete” analysis of life. I like to feel I am in control even if I am not. I am a person who keeps track of the details and likes that “piece of paper” to record them. The other sisters were willing to accept things they couldn’t really understand at first.
One of my problems with the book was that the characters were not developed evenly. I would have liked to follow the characters of Rose and Helen more. I did enjoy the story of Ivy he most.
Definitely Kit. She found her calling at the Louvre, and was the family protector who earned a living by her wits and reason. I had a very successful, but high-pressure/stress and demanding career, and have always been the major breadwinner & household organizer/manager. I’ve always been responsible and reliable, as well as curious. I have to keep digging until I find answers so, like Kit, I would be tortured if I kept seeing my sister (or thought I did) and did not know if she was safe & healthy. I would have to go looking for her and get answers. Ditto any sense I had that I was clairvoyant. I would have to explore, research, & delve into all available information on the subject until I had the answer.
