I have no idea how many times I’ve read Pride & Prejudice and A Christmas Carol. Suffice it to say, “many.”

I guess the re-reads are almost entirely classics - A Tale of Two Cities, Bleak House, and Jane Eyre are novels that stand out in my memory as those I’ve re-read multiple times. In fact, I think the only book in this category for me from the 20th century, was Lolita.

Of those published in the 21st century, the only one I can recall revisiting is Being Mortal, by Atul Gawande - a book I’d put in everyone’s hands if I could. I think this is also the only NF book I’ve re-read in my entire life.

Although I have not yet reread it, Being Mortal is among my most admired nonfiction books.

@Paula_Walters I’ve only read Butterflies once, but thought it was excellent. What about it drew you back for a re-read?

True confessions time - I think I’m a closet romantic. In addition to the books I mentioned earlier, I’ve re-read the first two books of the Outlander series multiple times, as well as book 1 of Dorothy Dunnett’s Lymond Chronicles.

To Kill a Mockingbird, my all-time favorite.

The sisters, their relationship, their bravery, they were amazing. Excellent writing, all in all a good book.

@Anne_Glasgow you’ve already read James three times? That’s amazing!

I’ve read The Great Gatsby many times, it’s so short that it’s always a nice summer read.

@Dee_Hatcher I’ve also read The Hobbit many times. I’m surprised you can read Fellowship without the rest of the trilogy, I’d get sucked in!

Yes, @nick. Three time for James. I read the book starting on pub day. Then heard so much about how good the audio was so I listened. Then as I heard interviews with Everett I realized there were aspects I needed to look at differently so I read the book again. LOL. It’s not something I do often. Turns out my book club will be discussing it in Aug 2025. Hopefully I won’t need to read it again but maybe. :woman_shrugging:

I agree with Nick, @Anne_Glasgow. That’s pretty amazing! Man, I absolutely have to make time for a Huck+James read.

Yes, Nick. I, too, have read The Hobbit several times. I have also read the entire Rings trilogy multiple times, but keep coming back to the Fellowship because of the way all the characters come together.

I have also reread Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein more than once. Not sure if it’s more than three times. Funny, because I rarely read science fiction or fantasy any more.

You should definitely make time for the pair: Huck + James @kim.kovacs .

What Everett has done is so beautiful and brilliant and it is eminently readable.

None, I have too many books I’ve yet to read to waste time re-reading what I’ve already read. Though some have left lasting impact on me that I can see myself perhaps revisiting them in the far future. I’ve been writing up a brief summary of the books I’ve read to help me remember them better even far in the future.

The only book I have read 3 times is Stephen King’s The Stand." I’ve read Dean Koontz “From the Corner of His Eye” twice. I’ve read “Kite Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns” twice. I plan to reread “A Boy’s Life” by Robert McGammon some time this year. I do have to admit From the Corner of His Eye is my absolute favorite book of all time.
