When you find a book you really, really, love, who’s the first person you want to share it with (spouse, friend, child…)?

When you find a book you really, really, love, who’s the first person you want to share it with (spouse, friend, child…)?

Three friends in my former book club (I moved away.) I recently did this and learned that one was reading the same book I just finished. My hunch is that we often read the same titles within six months or so.

It depends on the book. It may be my husband if it’s US history or current affairs, my sister who is a retired librarian if it’s a classic or literary fiction, a friend in my book club who appreciates books as much as I do, or my local very small town library director with a limited budget who is always on the lookout for books that would appeal to her patrons and who always gives me excellent recommendations.

I’m most excited to share with the person who I think would most enjoy the book. I’m very cautious about recommending books. However there are friends who are willing to listen to me babble on about a book I loved without feeling as though they need to read it.
