Becca has no way of knowing, initially, of Mildred’s evil intentions. Ben had refused to tell her about his true relationship with his mother. Yes, of course, I would have reached out to her after Ben’s disappearance and would have tried to establish relations with her since she now has a grandchild.

Unsure of why Ben cut off his mother, I think it was logical for Becca to reach out to her to see if she had any knowledge of her son’s whereabouts. I was glad to see that she was not sucked in but knew something was off from the very beginning.

I certainly would have reached out to her and trusted her. Becca was still unsure if Ben was dead or alive. She had herself and especially a young child to think of. I certainly would have been thinking about keeping my daughter safe with a paternal grandmother and actually wishing Becca had!

Agree with you all. She did not know Mildred’s dislike of her, so turning to the grandma seemed logical and necessary.

I also agree with the comments that were made above. Becca reached out for the most logical of reasons, and then followed her instincts. It’s a pivotal point in the plot.

The love Becca shared for her husband would certainly have led her to believe that he had good reason for his estrangement from his mother, but she was desperate to find out what had happened to her him. She had no way of knowing how manipulative and controlling his mother really was.

I agree with the above comments. Mildred is a logical person for Becca to reach out to since she was her mother in law. She had no way to know how horrible Mildred was.

I think everyone got this right. Becca had no options, a young child, limited funds and someone who appeared might be helpful. Mildred was a strong character, what a terrible person.

I agree also. This was really the only family connection available. And she was afraid, not being able to contact Ben. Becca had no way of knowing how evil Mildred would be.

Becca was able to see good in everyone. And because she had no way of knowing of Mildred’s evil intentions, yes I would have reached out to her to establish some kind of relations with my daughter only relatives. She loved Ben and naturally she would not have known to what lengths Mildred would go to reach her goal.We must remember she had no clues as Ben was very closed mouth about his relationship with his family.

I absolutely would have made the same decision! Mildred was a devious person and Becca was naive, but she was hoping for the best and she was in a desperate position. I feel certain that she spent the rest of her life regretting and re-thinking that first contact with the devil.

I agree that going to Mildred was the only reasonable choice at the time. It’s a reflection of Becca’s limited experience with people that she thought it reasonable to just run away from Ben’s very flawed home

Going to Mildred seemed like a good idea at the time and I probably would have done the same under the circumstances. It seemed like Mildred wanted to reconcile with her son and have a relationship with his family. But I think it was clear from the moment that Becca met her that Mildred didn’t have anyone’s best interest at heart, except for what she wanted for herself.

I don’t think I would have reached out to Mildred because of Ben’s refusal to have anything to do with his mother. Becca was aware that Mildred did not want Ben to marry her but she sensed there was more to Ben’s anger with his mother. Becca chose to visit Mildred because of the warm welcoming letter she received from her and because she had run out of options to provide for Evie given Ben’s disappearance. Once meeting Mildred, however, Becca knew she was anything but welcoming and seemed to be interested only in her granddaughter.

Becca was a new widow and really didn’t know what to do. She sought out Mildred hoping to create a family relationship. Becca didn’t really know how evil Mrs. Chambers was in the beginning. The room prepared at the Chamber house was one of the 1st signs of the grandmother’s intentions. The keeping of Becca’s mail was another symptom or how deranged Mildred was. I think Becca realized quickly her mistake of contacting Ben’s mother. Becca came to realize why Ben didn’t want to have anything to do with his overpowering mother.

I probably would have reached out to Mildred because there really weren’t other options. However I would have had my guard up due to the fact I was aware that Ben and his mother were at odds.

Probably. Desperate times call for desperate measures. She had to hope against hope.

Becca had never met Mildred and didn’t know the exact circumstances of why Ben had left. She was desperate and we do all kinds of things when we are desperate that we might not normally do. Had she had any inclination how despicable Mildred was, Becca would not have taken the risk with Evie, but she needed to find out about Ben so her only choice after trying everything else was to reach out to Mildred.
