I think I would have done exactly the same thing, by finding a trusted friend to confide in. Sometimes we need to discuss options with someone we trust, and this was one of those times!

I definitely would have contacted a friend who could help me. My problem is I don’t know which friends could help with a stolen violin. I guess I need to do a poll on Facebook to see which ones could help me :upside_down_face:

This is a tough question for me. I may have turned to musician friends of mine to learn more about it, but I never would have gone on the adventure Devlin ended up having.

I probably would have gone to the police but hey that would not have made a very good story! Glad that Delvin went to Walter for help and was smart enough to realize Walter was going to end his life. A good story with many friendships.

paula,

I agree! I have found lost jewelry and cash and took it to the police station- never to be heard from again! BUt I’m sure I would have asked my husband’s advice. And no, not a great story!

I would have gone to the police also. But I agree with those who say that Devlin turning to Walter made a much better story!

I agree with those who would have gone to the police. I would be scared to death that the stealers would find me and that would be a story with a sad ending!:worried:

Walter was someone Devlin could trust. That was important to him. Taking it to the police meant he could lose the violin even if it wasn’t stolen, or be accused of stealing it himself. Devlin knew how to reasearch it and verify its authenticity.

I think I would have taken it to my school’s orchestra teacher to find out more about it. Then we would have gone to the police together. Not as exciting.

I would have reached out to a friend that I trusted. I don’t think I would have reached out to an expert right away.

I guess I would take it first to my ex-symphony violinist neighbor to ask her advice. She would know more about its background and who else to contact for more information.

I probably would have gone to the police but they might not have been much help. I think that Devlin handled it well by going to a friend that he trusted.

I’ve thought about this a lot, and I guess I would head to my neighbor Kathy who has been playing the violin most of her life. She would know so much more than I about searching for an owner, etc.
I laughed at Devlin at first who thought of his teacher from so many years before. Lucky!

Devlin wasn’t sure what to do. I probably would have researched an expert in the area and ask them what to do.

I have a friend who is a retired police detective. I might have gone to him and had him go with me to the police.
