What’s your favorite book series?
I honestly do not read book series. ![]()
I have a few favorites:
- Redwall
- Lord of the Rings
- John Updike’s Rabbit Series - also has two Pulitzer winners.
I absolutely adore the Andy Carpenter mystery series by David Rosenfelt. They’re quick, breezy reads and he swears Tara the Golden Retriever will never die so I know they’re safe. I need to start the Cork O’Connor series by William Kent Krueger–I love his standalones so think his series would appeal to me.
When I was a kid I consumed the Nancy Drew series and the little orange Young Americans series. As an adult I really don’t have a favorite book series. I do have authors I really like read. Willa Cather, Louise Erdrich, Larry McMurtry, and Erik Larsen come to mind. I think I would like Ivan Doig, Alison Weir’s The Tudor Queens series, Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall series. I hope to try them someday.

I have Wolf Hall on my list.
I love Cork O’Connor by William Kent Krueger. Also Joe Pickett by CJ Box.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
The Cemetery of Forgotten Books by Carlos Ruiz Zafron
The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley
John Sandford’s mysteries. He’s been writing stories about previous minor characters now being major characters giving them more depth. The “Prey” series features my favorite detective - Lucas Davenport.
Discovery of Witches!
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Harry Potter Series
When you ask which series is our “favorite,” that is like asking which child is our favorite! Multiple answers are a must.

That’s a very tough call. So hard to pick just one. But the series that sticks out in my mind is Wagons West, by Dana Fuller Ross.
I love a good series and seeing everyone’s post for new suggestions! My favorite series, right now, is the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. Just love it! I am, also, reading the Cork O’Conner series. Most of my favorites have already been mentioned here, but I will add Little House on the Prairie series, both the Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple series, Ferrol Sams’ trilogy, and the Amelia Peabody series. And, thank you, fellow readers, for all the great lists.
Oh, @Pat_Dodson, I haven’t thought about the Amelia Peabody series in ages. I just love that one and I’ve read/listened to it multiple times.
Another series I’ve read/listened to multiple times was the Miles Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold.
Those are kind of rare exceptions to the type of series I like: those that are a series because their story can’t be told in one book, like Lord of the Rings or The Game of Thrones series.
There are a bunch - particularly mysteries and police procedurals - where the author keeps throwing books out there because people keep buying them (John Sanford’s Prey series, Jeffery Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme series, Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch books, et al.). They tend to lose me after a while, particularly as they become less mystery/thriller and more about the characters themselves.
