What was your theory about who killed Desmond and why? Did your opinion change over the course of the novel?

I didn’t consider or even care who murdered Desmond as this story wasn’t a who-done-it mystery to me. Carol’s interaction with others as well as the setting kept my attention. In some respects that was the main plot with the murders the sideline events.

I really never had a clue, other than the obvious choice of his family.

I wasn’t sure until I heard that Desmond had an affair in Portugal and then it was clear that Elisa was his daughter and probably had something to do with his murder.

I thought maybe it was several different people, each finding him not quite dead and trying again. I never thought it was carol, but the ending did surprise me. It was interesting when the Portugal affair was revealed.

That is when I guesssed also

I thought it might have been the gardener, just because of him being left-handed, but thought maybe he and him mom did it together.
