What surprised you the most about the novel? Did you learn anything new from it, and if so, what?
I think what probably surprised me the most was how much I enjoyed it! And I did learn a lot more than I already knew about Mary Quant, especially her overseas ventures - JCPenney! Who’da thunk it!

I was surprised how Mary evolved into such an entrepreneur and managed it all without a nervous breakdown!
I did learn from this book. I was not aware of Mary’s connection with JC Penny and Company and to what extent her fashions were a part of their woman’s fashion section. I also was not aware of her husband’s involvement in her success. I knew about her fashions, not her life with its ups and downs.
I knew Mary invented the mini skirt but I didn’t know she created so many different lines like cosmetics. I had no idea J C Penny’s carried her clothes.
I also was surprised about Pennys. I don’t remember them selling her clothes.
I wasn’t familiar with Mary Quant at all. I knew the fashions she created but not the creator. Hearing that JC Penney was involved was definitely a surprise. Mary certainly was a major influence on fashion across the globe.
I learned a lot about Mary Quant. Reading about JC Penney was shocking until I thought about Christan Sirano (big winner on Project Runway and now a very successful luxury designer). Shortly after he won, he signed a deal with a payless shoes. He was criticized and he came back that he wanted to design, have fashion experiences and build his luxury line. Needless to say it worked for him and he now designs for the Red Carpet looks we see at award season.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I am not business oriented but I really enjoyed Mary and her enthusiasm about starting her business. It was very interesting. She was willing to take risks and learn as much as she could. Very refreshing seeing confident women in this book.
I never heard of her. Now I am looking for books about her and others like her. Awesome!!
I knew her for the mini skirt and other fashions. I learned so much more about her life and impact on so many aspects of fashion. Like others said, I did not know she was involved with JC Penney’s. I found this novel to be a very pleasant surprise overall, of learning about someone I only knew surface facts about previously!
I was surprised by how much Mary Quant was involved in beyond designing clothes. She really was ahead of her time as far as innovative business practices and becoming involved with all sides of her company. She seemed such a quiet woman, who was really very strong.
I was not familiar with Mary Quant at all. I was interested in learning about her involvement in the fashion industry. I was surprised that her husband played a large role in her success.
