What surprised you the most about the book? Did you learn anything new about the period from it?
What surprised me the most was the openness of the relationship between Kit and Max. I was aware of such relationships, but I had no idea they existed during the war. Talk about naivety!
I knew that many people did work that they could not talk about, but I think it must have been more prevalent than I thought. So many of the characters were working in a different capacity than their family were told. It was an exceptional time in history.
I was surprised about the role the Bayeux Tapestry played in WWII. Interesting that it guided some SS Officers strategic planning.
As I mentioned elsewhere, I did not know about the Nazis’ fascination with the occult, mysticism, clairvoyance, etc. So I enjoyed learning about that.
I am embarrassed to admit this, but I never heard of the Bayeau Tapestry. Needless to say ,I found it intriguing. I gotI bought an ebook , nonfiction about it, A Needle in the Right Hand of God by R. Howard Bloch
