What strengths do you feel Mebel possesses at the start of her story? How do you think her career choice enhances these strengths? Does it help her develop new ones? Did your opinion of her change from the start of the book to its conclusion?
Mebel’s self confidence is so apparent at the beginning of the book - she loves being a stripy wife. She says she makes a fantastic one, curves in the right places.
Her career choice does not change her confidence at the beginning. She is very matter of fact when she begins school (she even wears her high heels and designer clothes to class even though she knows it doesn’t make sense).
Mebel does develop new skills. She learns how to do things on her own (like figuring out where a classmates lives). And of course, she learns how to cook extremely well.
My opinion of Mebel did not change while reading her story. She handled everything that was thrown at her with strength and confidence. She was so honest with herself and others. I also liked how eventually she figured out material things are only things and do not make the person.
