What role did Jessie play in the Harlem Renaissance?
Oh my goodness, she was instrumental, especially in the literary world! It’s not an understatement to say that Jessie was instrumental in discovering, mentoring, publishing, and ensuring the world heard from the unknown Black poets and authors. The influx of Black writers at the time most certainly is tied to Jessie and her efforts.
I would say she played a big role. She was smart, she showed leadership skills , and went after what she wanted. She discovered Langston Hughes, which is incredible. She pushed through obstacles ,not expecting it to be easy in those days.
Jessie was instrumental in showcasing Black authors. Although not a part of this book I am sure she was looked up to by many other women and younger girls that because of her went on to do great things - whether well known or behind the scenes.
