What percentage of the books you’ve read this year did you rate 5-star?
Maybe 25%. I am very discerning about what I read.

I have five 5-star books so far this year and I’ve finished 83 books at this point.

At this point out of 40 books, only 6 are “5” stars.

@Anne_Glasgow Oh my gosh! I must know your secret, if you are willing to divulge it, of how you manage to get so much reading accomplished. I’m a fast reader and I’m in total awe of you.
Hey @Lana_Maskus. I don’t know that it is a secret I just make big chunks of time for reading and I’m never without some sort of reading material. By reading in big chunks of time I tend to get into a book and stay focused rather than picking it up sporadically. I don’t watch tv much so that opens up a good chunk of time. I also stick my earphones on for most any task. In addition to my long morning walk there’s cooking, cleaning, going to the mailbox, folding laundry, etc. Reading has been my priority forever so it comes naturally to reach for some format of book whenever I have a few minutes. I also don’t gap between books. I go from the back cover of one to the front cover of the next one. That has its own set of consequences but I always sort of feel like I need to be in a book.

Looks like for me, it’s 25/88 books this year, so 28%.
I think I’ve mentioned elsewhere that I wouldn’t make this much time for reading if it wasn’t my job, but at least I’m able to snag some pretty top-notch books!
About one-third of my 77 books have been 5 stars. One key factor drives up this percentage, that is, I DNF books with abandon. No FOMO here. As a result, I basically only read books that have high appeal for me. Despite a wide mix of genres, an overwhelming majority of my top-rated so far this year are non-fiction, despite that non-fiction only accounts for about 20% of my current completed books.
And a confession about my rating quirks is that I only rate a book relative to books in their specific genre. For example, I don’t rate a rom-com relative to a non-fiction book. If I did a rom-com would never be more than a one or two star. Yes, big analytical nerd here.

I applaud your reading and rating methods. I try really hard to only read books that appeal to me but I’m a notoriously stingy rater. Something has to virtually knock my socks off to get a 5-star rating. That said I’m pretty happy with where I am but you are hitting it out of the park with 5-star books.
Also, I’m with you on dnf’ing. Those books don’t get rated but I do track them just to see how many add up. It’s a little badge of honor for me to say “I simply don’t care and there are soooo many books waiting.”

I round up to 5 using a scale the includes tenths. My absolute 5 stars are generally few but this year I have read a handful of non-fiction that have been well-written and extremely thought-provoking. I love books that send me off doing additional research!!!

I’ve had an unusually good year of reading. I would say that half the books I read were five-star books. In total, I read about a book a week.

I’ve rated 20% of the books I’ve read this year as 5 - Excellent, but looking back now I’ve decided that only 3 (12.5%) truly deserve that rating.
I rate my books on a 1 to 5 level. I have to admit if the book is an easy read and kept my attention I’m a sucker to give it a five excellent. Probably around 70% of my books I have read are five star.. If it has been a good read and a fast read. I give the author credit who took the time to write this novel, especially if it was an easy read. If I reach 50% of the book and realize the book is not for me, I put it in the do not finish category
I do find if the book is a slow read and find the plot off the track I rate it a 3,5.
