I litigated cases in which I received information from confidential sources. And I protected them. To this day, I’ve never revealed where I got the information and I never will. Those people took risks and helped me do my job. I will always be grateful.
The lesson? Your word has to count. People have to be able to trust you. Once trust is broken, a relationship is over. Through their various interactions, Polly and Eunice learned that about each other & that’s what made theirs a winning collaboration.
while the relationship of mnister and parishioner is quite different, it is built on trust as much as anything else. Keeping confidences was very important. Eunice’s relationship with Polly would have crumbled if she was able to hold everything in confidence.
