What dynamic does Aunt Clara add to the story?
She adds some much needed humor and common sense. She may have been my favorite character.
Aunt Clara was my favorite character. She seemed very well grounded - the only person she had to please was herself!
I loved Aunt Clara. At first she seemed to be the grumpy old lady who was not very hospitable. However, we come to learn that she is a rather all-knowing sensible woman who bides her time too intervene and say what is necessary.

She was one of my two favorite characters. Aunt Clara had finally gotten to the age that she could say what she wanted - she was independent and forthright. She relied on no one else, so did not have to cow tow to anyone. Her house, her opinion, like it or leave. I thoroughly enjoyed her.
Aunt Clara was delightful. She came of as a Scrooge type, at first, but was really a brilliant woman that probably suffered heartache in her youth as a result of some decisons she made or decisions that were made for her. She was a big softie.
I agree that Aunt Clara brought humor, kindness, and a reality check for Cecelia and Evelyn. She was used to living by herself and needed time before she could enjoy having others in her home. Also, she was not a wealthy person and now had two others to feed and house.
Aunt Clara adds the miserly, love-forlorn, spinster/ wise old character to the story. She is the character that reminds younger characters of who not to be and why. Her dynamic is required to show Evelyn the other side of the coin if she does not stay true to herself.
Aunt Clara was definitely the curmudgeonly type and not at all welcoming to them in the beginning, and I can’t say I blamed her. Evelyn’s mother would have gotten on my very last nerve! But she came around in the end and turned out to love them and welcomed their company.
F-U-N! Kind of a rebel! Her quirky remarks gave the story a humorous slant! Her character added to the entire story. Aunt Clara was likable, funny and smart, unlike Cecelia. Great contrast in personalities.
Aunt Clara adds humor to the story and is a truthful, reliable person in Evelyn’s life. Evelyn’s parents certainly lack those qualities! She knows where she is with Aunt Clara.
