What does Anya do that surprised you or that, by adult standards, felt illogical?
I was surprised when I thought Anya was ratting Effie out when she gets to Peter’s compound. So when she came thought I thought how clever she really was for being so young.
Given the way she was raised, I wasnt surprised by any of her behavior. I dont think adult standards applied to her.
There were gaps in information about Anya’s birth, early years and how she was raised/taught. For example, was she the only child in the compound? Nonetheless, the author portrayed a frightened child who fled violence, one who slowly warmed to Effie, and finally an intelligent and resourceful character who saved her aunt.
When she devised the plan to get Effie out of Peter’s compound, I thought that was rather brilliant for a young child
Anya surprised me with her cleverness when navigating the compound. I was so glad she worked with Effie rather than against her. They really had formed a bond.
It seemed illogical to me for Anya to leave relative comfort and safety with people who were trying hard to understand her and give her space to acclimate to a “new world.”
I was surprised that she made a plan to rescue Effie. For someone her age and someone living so secluded, it really took me by surprise.
Obviously Anya was old for her age. Her manipulation of Peter to save Effie was a surprise.
I didn’t get a clear picture of Anya’s background, although I started piecing together bits about her. Perhaps that’s the way the author wanted it. She was pretty ingenious in organizing a rescue of Effie. Kudos to her.
