It was an interesting relationship that I couldn’t really understand. They seemed rather distant, but he did seem to care about his mom and her opinion of him. I don’t think it was right to put a tracker on her phone without her knowledge. That is a pretty condescending thing to do and I wouldn’t like it at all.

I put a tracker on my phone when my daughter was a teen. She knew about it and in fact helped me set it up. LOL. I also gave her access to track me. The difference being she knew about it.

I dont think it is acceptable to have trackers on a phone unless the person knows about it. I can understand Archie was worried, but Lottie was able to live by herself and manage her own life so secret tracking is not right.

I didn’t like that Lottie hid his parentage, but I did understand it. I also believe in today’s world, these things can easily come out!

I pretty much agree with Dee. My family and I are all able to see where we are. My daughters can see where all of their thousands of friends are. I don’t think a tracker is a big deal - except if done behind someone’s back - but also this didn’t feel realistic in the book because trackers among family are pretty common.

I think she should have been more realistic with him about who his father was and please, to close hope for Archie that is father might be out there and just choosing not to be in his life.

Archie violated Lottie’s privacy and rights. Nope! Not nice. They seemed to have an emotional distancing throughout, which likely was necessary. Archie didn’t suspect his mom’s involvement with murders. Lottie encircled herself with her deranged thinking and actions.

No, he shouldn’t have placed the tracker on Lottie without asking her first. But this is a story and that was important to the plot. Archie always seemed a bit distant; his concern for Lottie seemed slightly insincere.
It was selfish of Lottie to hide Archie’s parentage from him, but it would be a hard thing to tell him she bludgeoned his father in the shower! Lottie was not one who listened to reason. She was always in self-protection mode.

I was surprised at how “normal” Lottie’s relationship was with Archie. While I don’t agree with Archie’s tracking Lottie, I understood his concern for his mother given she was aging and living alone in what was described as a larger home. I have mixed feelings about Lottie not disclosing any information or identity of Archie’s father.

I also agree. Using an app such as 360 works in our family. And as the older mother in the group it good to know where everyone is from daughters, to granddaughters to others as needed. I especially find it a welcomed service whenever any of my family is traveling.

Tracking someone’s phone without their knowledge is not acceptable. Lottie was off base in not at some earlier point in his life telling Archie about his parentage.

Lottie let Archie know that his father died not sure if she told him it was before he was born. I doubt she gave him his real name. She told him things that weren’t true about his father’s character to make him feel good. They seemed to have an ordinary relationship when he was younger and drifted after he left home for college and law school. Lottie wasn’t tech savvy but he should have told her about the location sharing app. As a senior living alone all 3 of my kids have my location and I have theirs. There have been a few times I forgot to take the phone out of silent mode after an aqua aerobics class and they could see that I was home and thought something happened. Thankfully they’ve reached me before anyone drove 45 min to check on me.

The secret tracker thing wasn’t cool, but I actually thought that their relationship was maybe even more normal than I expected. I wonder if people’s opinions would have changed if Archie told her that he wanted to be able to track her considering her age. That would have caused a bunch of new problems.

Hiding parentage is never a good idea, however sometimes it can be more hurtful than helpful. As far as the tracker I think that was done out of love, not maliciousness. It is hard to live away from an elderly loved one without having someone in their life to look out for them and report back when something is not going well.

I think Lottie and Archie had an odd relationship. On the one hand he seemed to care for her but on the other hand, he did not offer to look at possible senior living communities that would be near him and Morgan in California. Possibly this was due to his mother’s past and the fact that they had to move to a different part of the state when he was younger because of the suspicion surrounding her.
I don’t think he should have put a tracker on her vehicle without telling her, It was definately an invasion of privacy and I think Lottie was justified in being annoyed.

I kept thinking that Archie secretly knew the real Lottie. I especially thought it funny that his bride-to-be wanted to become close friends with Lottie. I fully expected her to one day confess to Lottie that she too had the same urges in her life and the two of them become dual killers, both keeping their secrets from Archie.

I certainly understood Archie’s concerns and why he put the tracker on her phone, but that is a pretty shocking privacy violation that I would never tolerate from anyone including my sons.

I believe she loved Archie and his children. She cared about his first wife and found herself, grudgingly, beginning to like Morgan. She was looking forward to the new grandchild. She hid his parentage to protect him — and herself! Archie was like most children. They have their own lives to live but that doesn’t mean they don’t care. They just can’t dedicate all their efforts to their parents. They have a life and, probably, a family of their own. I think Archie was trying to look out for Lottie by putting the tracker on her phone. I believe he did it with a good heart hoping to help keep her safe.
