What do you believe was the turning point for Grace to join the silent book club?

I think Grace finally started to realize that she needed to stop depending so much on her daughter and grandson after Frank’s death. She pretended to be busy by walking the neighborhood so they wouldn’t feel obligated to stop by. When her grandson suggested she try out Frank’s book club, which he had visited, she decided to give it a try.

Grace’s grandson encouraged her to go and she realized it was a connection to her late husband. I think she was also curious to get to know some of the people in the group. She had been reclusive since her husband had passed away and joining the group would give her a reason to get out of the house and not be so dependent on her daughter and grandson.

It was really tough for Grace at first to attend the book club - and I use the word “attend’ rather than “join” on purpose, because she had such reservations about going, and just wanted to go home. But her grandson helped encourage her, and finally she was curious about the people in the group who had been Frank’s friends.

I agree with the others, her grandson’s urging and her realization that she needed to find interested and activities so her daughter would not feel burdened or concerned about her

I think the turning point for Grace was when she realized the book club might disband if they did not get more members. By this time, she realized how very special it was and she wanted it to continue to honor Frank’s memory as the club founder.

I agree with Julie P. She went because she thought she should, not because it was of interest to her.

The turning point for grace was that she wanted to keep the book club goin.

I think she was lonely and at loose ends, but not wanting to admit it and she realized that she had come to rely too much on her daughter and grandson, as others have mentioned. I think her grandson’s recommendation came at the right time.
