What did you think of the ultimate fate of the Woman and the Weasel? Why do you suppose the thief took this action?
I was surprised, especially if it turns out to be a real Raphael. And I’m still puzzling the reason. A way of showing her friendship to the Vicar. A way to ensure it wouldn’t disappear into the world of missing art (money laundering). And respect that Simon would appreciate it as a painting, not a commodity. But I would have rather it ended up in a museum. And it left me wondering how many other “Raphael’s” are out there in these large mansions.
I wanted to go back and reread what Simon thought about his housekeeper, but couldn’t find that page. I half-wondered whether the Simon Cate knew more about who the thief was, but didn’t let on. After all, that would have been an interesting/coincidental reason for why Simon developed hysterical aphonia. Wouldn’t it have been ironic if the thief knew that Simon suspected her involvement and that this was her way of thanking him for keeping her secret safe?
