What did you think of the different ways of dealing with the curse? What do you think Ebun and Eniiyi end up believing about their own destiny? What do you think the future holds for the Falodun women?
It seems like the Falodun women are destined to repeat the cycle of not having a stable relationship, not necessarily because of the curse but because of their self sabotaging behaviors. Eniyii and Ebun have both sabotaged their relationships because of the curse. It seems like the women of the family throw themselves into relationships in defiance of the curse only to lose their relationships. This may appear to be an obvious fulfillment of the curse, but the Falodun women seem to either throw themselves haphazardly into misguided relationships or sabotage their relationships in fear of the curse
Yes, it appears the curse had power because the women believed it - and made it come true.
I think the women believed in the curse and acted subconsciously in ways to make it come true. I think Eniiyi tried, and perhaps, succeeded in breaking the cycle by leaving the house and the country to make her own way in the world. That was hard for her to do because of the love that her family had for each other.
I agree that the women often self sabotaged themselves- perhaps unconsciously to fulfill the curse. I think all of us at some time or another have self sabotaged whether in exams, auditions, performances, or even job interviews. If this is a universal question- what is the universal WHY?
I agree with Jean. Eniiyi’s only hope is to stay in UK and build her life there.
It seems to me that the curse has lost some power with each generation of women. Eniiyi has the strength the others lack and I don’t think she would pass on this lore to a daughter.
