What did you think of the author’s epilogue and the future she envisions for each of her characters?
I enjoyed the epilogue! I thought it gave realistic possible futures for each of the characters, given their experiences, interests, and the times.
I always like an epilogue, no matter how neatly things wrap up. It’s fun to envision where all the characters may have landed.
I thought it was a great way to wrap the story up.
Enjoyed the epilogue but did see one glaring issue. In the last chapter, Chrissie says that she has 3 children - “Terry junior’s ten, Max is six, and Jennifer’s three’. In the epilogue, it says “Chrissie and Terry remained in New York for the next ten years with their two children…”. Other than that, I appreciated a quick “what happened to…”.

I really liked the way she concluded the book with “what happens next to the characters” and felt that the future was realistic for each of them. . Unfortunately I was really disappointed see that the characters were all 100% fictional and not based on real people. I know it is a novel, but I was really hoping for a at least “based on real people” or even an amalgam of several real people. Really caused me to be disappointed and like the book less.
I thought including an epilogue for major characters was a creative idea. I do think the author got it right for these three gals. The most surprising was Fern. She had the most to overcome with her background but had the help of the other women in her industry to help her. I do not doubt that she would be successful in the future.
I thought that the epilogue was a nice ending to the story. Although, I find it a bit unbelievable that Daphne would have had that sort of turn on her career. I can see her as a fashion photographer and then running Martin’s estate. I don’t see that she would even want to be a plwar photographer at all. I also thought it was strange that Terry and Chrissie did not move back to England when Chrissie said that they were thinking about it. Fern’s future was the only one that seemed believable.
Becky_Hasse, I agree. I was not expecting that the characters were fictional. I expected them to be based on real people, or some combination of real people. It was disappointing. I understand that this is historical fiction, which means some of this was fiction, but she pushed the envelope too far for my taste.
I did appreciate that she told us, but what about people that don’t read epilogues?
I thought it was a unique feature of the book. How many times has a reader been left at the end of a novel wondering whatever happen to its characters? For me, many more times that I can keep track of, so I was delighted to find this feature in this book.
I always enjoy an epilogue and to have things wrapped up at the end of a book. I did goggle many of the real characters in the book after I finished reading it.
I liked the epilogue as I’m a reader who likes things all tied together in the end. The futures seemed so real, I had to reread that the characters were fictional.
I enjoyed it because while reading the book, I kept thinking the other women besides Mary Quant were real, and her epilogue made them have their own histories. It was delightful to think they had lives beyond Mary.
