What did you think about the author’s note at the end of the book? Did it impact the way you felt about the novel in any way?
This was heart wrenching for me. Her great loss led to greater gratitude for others in her life. She could have written a “dark” novel but didn’t. Life is a journey for all of us.
There seems to be quite a bit of parallel in the personalities of fictitious Leah and real life Charlie. Perhaps he was her muse?
I hadn’t read it until this question was asked. After reading it I’m realizing why I liked this book so much - there was catharsis in every chapter. It basically was a blueprint for acceptance that grieving really is a journey. Cozy mysteries are cathartic in the premise that good prevails over evil. This had the extra layer of exploration of the grieving process. For both the reader and the author.

while I found the author’s note interesting and sad, it did not influence my thoughts on the book. I enjoyed the book after and while reading it. The note does give perspective on why this book is more than the typical cozy mystery - healing from grief and carrying grief were a key parts of the mystery..
The author’s note explained so much about the premise of the book, its unique structure, and how Leah served as the muse for the story. It didn’t change the way I felt about the book, but it gave me a better understanding of how the author’s own loss influenced the writing process and ultimately shaped the book. Reading that personal connection added another layer for what she created.
Yes, it certainly did. I had wished I read it prior to beginning the book. Perhaps I would have had a clearer feeling as to where she was going with the storyline. When I reviewed it I started my first part of the review hoping others would take my advice and learn from it prior to the reading of the book.

I always read the author’s notes as I feel it so often gives you a better perspective about the story and the authors intent for the book. I got a better understanding of how this story came about for the author.
It was certainly a sad note, and it explains this book’s concentration on loss and grieving. I hope it was cathartic for the author. All in all, it was a mystery plus journey of grief.
I was moved by the author’s note at the end of the book. It shed light on the grief process and how it varies from one person to another. It did not change my view of the book but it made me wish the author would write a description of her own grief journey. I think it would be beneficial to others who are hurting and unable to verbalize their own pain.
