What did you think about Lottie in general? Were there aspects of her character you admired, and if so, which ones?
Oh she is an evil old lady.
It says she worries about getting caught, but I honestly think she didn’t care - she did it so many times.
I agree she is an evil lady. The only aspect of her character is her love and protection of her son Archie.
There is no doubt that she is evil and feels that slights against her should result in the person being killed. I did appreciate how she cared for her son, his new wife and her church friends. In fact, there were times I didn’t want her to get caught. I know that is terrible to say, but yikes at times I understand her grievance.

I LOVED the character Lottie! Despite being a serial killer, I found myself rooting for her. Her irreverence was awesome. Also, this was a great example of a character-driven plot as things happened mostly because of decisions or actions Lottie made or did.

Evil, for sure. She seemed to care for her family and friends, but what if one of them crosses her? Hmmmm…..
I admit I liked her, too. She was a serial killer in one sense, three or more victims, but she wasn’t like the infamous such as Ted Bundy. She didn’t hunt people as prey. She’s more of a circumstantial serial killer. Leave her alone, don’t cross her path or violate her privacy and you’ll live.

I wouldn’t want her for a friend, or even just an acquaintance. There is something very lacking in her.
Evil, evil, evil. Even with her love of Archie, if she was pushed into the corner, who would she protect first? I bet it wouldn’t have been Archie.
Agreed. Dottie’s irreverence was her best trait, but I also liked her stubborn independence. If you could take the whole killer part away, she would be an interesting neighbor or that family member who you always worried would say exactly what’s on her mind at family gatherings.

I loved Lottie - curmudgeon that she was. I think once she moved and changed her name she just wanted to be left alone and had Burke seized tracking her she would have been fine.

How do you say you loved getting to know a serial killer? But I did like Lottie. She was quirky, she was spunky, and she was intelligent.

I admired her tenacity, ingenuity, and resourcefulness. And in a weird way, I admired her for hating that she felt she had to come out of retirement and kill again. She had really moved past that part of her life and had no desire to continue murdering. For her it was a means to an end and nothing more. She didn’t enjoy it.
But she was still a psychopath.
And that’s why people like her are so unbelievably dangerous.
I didn’t want her to get caught, either.
Just like I cheered for Tony Soprano when the FBI agent was chasing him and he got away.
Anti-heroes. We hate that we love them!
BTW, the guy who played the FBI agent was interviewed and related that when the show was airing, he couldn’t walk down a street in NYC without being accosted by little old ladies telling him to leave Tony Soprano alone! He said it was such a weird experience . . . because he was playing the good guy! But the show’s fans wanted the bad guy to prevail.

Tony Soprano fan here, too. And another really, really bad guy who some of the public liked was John Gotti. He knew how to “provide” in order for people to benefit. Either the fictional nor real mobsters were like Lottie, though.
The murders were certainly terrible but I kind of admired the way she thought things through. She kept one step ahead so many times! She definitely had mental problems since she had no empathy for those she killed and justified each death. It’s a book of fiction and I thought it was rather clever.
