Are there particular podcasts you enjoy? I’ve listened to a few but only in those that have a set number of episodes.
OMG I listen to soooo many. Fine tune this request a bit for me and I’ll let you know what I like. Genre? Specifically books? True crime? Dramatizations? Happy to pull some together.
@Anne_Glasgow @kim.kovacs I wanted to test moving posts to a new topic and I figured podcasts could be a topic on its own! I just recently listened to https://www.booksbeachandbeyond.com/ and thought it was pretty good, sounds like you have quite a list Anne!
Anne - I guess I’d be most interested in a podcast that reviews books or one that talks to authors. I imagine there are plenty out there but I’ve never done any research. I’d appreciate knowing which ones are your favorites - which ones you never, ever miss.
Ok, here’s a handful of my favorites:
—AudioFile Behind the Mic about 5-10 minutes on weekdays about audiobooks and their narrators
—Bookreporter Talks To does author interviews and monthly what’s publishing soon via YouTube.
—Poured Over is Barnes & Noble interviews with newly published authors
—Read or Dead is mysteries and thrillers
—Strong Sense of Place is travel oriented with book recs set in the featured destination.
—The Book Case is Charlie Gibson from Good Morning America and his daughter Kate doing author interviews.
—The Stacks is primarily nonfiction by authors of color.
There are so many more. Hit me up if you are looking for something different.
Wow! I had no idea there were so many. Several of these look very interesting. I really appreciate you posting them - I’ll have to check them out!
Sarah’s Bookshelves most of the time. Book Riot occasionally.
I’ve recently subscribed to Shakespeare and Company (famous English language bookstore in Paris) and am enjoying their interviews with visiting authors. Also, not a podcast but a YouTube channel is Politics and Prose, a Washington bookstore that also brings in some very good authors. I’m guessing there may be other independent bookstores that also share their author visits.
Have never listened to a book podcast. Thanks for the list, will give them a try.
I also listen to Books Beach and Beyond!
I would recommend NPR’s Book of the Day if you like short, focused episodes on a single book (usually new release) and an interview with the author.
That sounds right up my alley, @Holly_Batsell! Thank you!
My favorite book podcast is David Naimon’s Between the Covers, which is just excellent long-form interviews:
For anyone interested in seeing some more, this post is from not too long ago:
I haven’t listened to much of The Stacks (which Anne mentioned), but have really enjoyed what I have heard. I remember a great episode with Ingrid Rojas Contreras talking to the host about How to Write an Autobiographical Novel by Alexander Chee.
I’m a history nut, so I love history podcasts. Probably the best one out there right now is The Rest is History with Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook. They are on Apple and also have a YouTube channel:
I’ve listened to every episode of What Should I Read Next? by Anne Bogel. Most episodes follow the format of asking readers for three books they love, one book that didn’t work for them, and what they would like different in their reading lives. The she recommends three books based on the discussion. Very conversational tone — like talking books with a friend.
Wow, that sounds amazing, @Karen_Belyea! Thanks for sharing.
